Ooo, smug time! We saved $298 at the !*fRee*! part of the second hand store last Saturday! And our rack is bigger, has an ‘aged patina of weathering’ and is (now) being upcycled in the yard! [ we had a clone of the "necklace" too, but the wood stove asked for it]

Sometimes. But my point is that people think they’re going to be able to replace the day job they were laid off from with crafts made from the same pre-made components that there are literally 15,000 other sellers using.

Depends on the photo. I actually sell some photos for $15-$50 depending, but they’re framed, etc… Not that I make a living on them, I barely break even on materials, not counting photo equipment.

The creative thinking behind the necklace was as follows:
    -Purple haired hipster gets drunk
-Purple haired hipster takes header into fence
-Purple haired hipster wakes up and is mortified
-Purple haired hipster internally justifies falling through fence by deciding that the Muses called to her in the night and demanded that she commit herself physically to her art
-Purple haired hipster needs $300 for cooking with kale classes
    Voila!

My thoughts were similar only involved getting trapped under a pile of deckchairs rather than a fence. I love that even she doesn’t know what it is; body armour, couture wall ensemble art, a necklace, all or none of the above.

Also, it has ivory in it? Urgh, like it was hideous enough without knowing it has bits of dead elephant in it. Even if it’s old ivory it’s still a horrible thing to include.

No, there are still plenty of people who make things from scratch. Etsy is full of them. What’s dying off are people who are any good at it, as evidenced by your $300 pile of busted shit glued to other shit. But keep sniffing your own farts.

I’m not hating on you, I just think this piece is funny, it looks like the legs from deckchairs to me. If you make art then expect differing opinions on it and critics. I also make things from scratch and I don’t expect everyone to love my stuff and would probably be kind of insulted and wonder what I was doing wrong if they did.
I wasn’t trying to offend you, sorry if you took it that way, if I wanted to be rude I’d have sent a personal message or given you the link to here (who did that? come on, own up you mean thing). Honestly, getting butthurt over it will just garner more negative attention from trolls. I’m guessing one of them pointed you to this post to see if you’d get upset, which is not cool.

And I just don’t like ivory, it’s a personal thing, all I can think of is what happened to the elephant, it is beautiful to look at but it will always be an ugly, ugly thing to me.

Just because you made it doesn’t mean we aren’t going to critique it. Sorry, but Regretsy ain’t no kindergarten teacher. I have made some very bad art in my day, including some hilariously unwearable clothing. I threw it out, put on my big girl pants, laughed, and learned to improve my knitting techniques. It’s better to make good art than accept your work without questioning and improving it constantly. In fact, that’s what art is about.
So: real criticism. The idea of the piece is solid, actually. I like what you were going for, just not the implementation. The wood is not comfortably shaped and the sticking out bits detract from its natural shaping, as well as looking odd rather than daring. The way it would be worn looks uncomfortable and difficult to stay on. I understand couture, but sorry, this piece is just not well-engineered.

I need these goggles to keep my eyes from popping out at all the *Whotsefuck!* offered…
If the “like new lenses” don’t stand it, I could still paint with my eyeballs. Or has it been done before?

Thank you for the quilt one. I knew they were too good to be true but alas, I was almost convinced. The power of a cheap price + pretty pic + denial!

any day the scammy scummy edmdesigns gets called out on Etsy is a good one. They are a vindictive copycat reseller Ricky, and the only reason they are allowed to stay was that they were friends with an admin:

edmdesigns is quite disrespected in the real steampunk community of artists for their blatant reselling.

Just wanted to point out that the cup rack thing is now going for $350. Somehow I’m not surprised.
