JOB OPPORTUNITY – $150

Dear Helen,
My husband of 7 years is the kindest, most thoughtful man I’ve ever known. He works long hours, is a devoted father to our 2-year-old son, and is endlessly patient with me, even when I’m acting like an ass.
When it comes time for gift-giving, he always comes up with something unexpected and really meaningful. I, on the other hand, can’t come up with anything unless it’s on his Amazon wishlist. We’ve been together 10 years, and I’ve never gotten him anything that made him say, “Holy shit!” when he opened it.
That’s where Regretsy comes in.
He’s always had a soft spot for the Burger King, the Colonel, and other corporate mascots. And a few weeks ago, he mentioned he saw a photo of somebody dressed up like a zombie Colonel, and it would be so cool to have a drawing or painting of that.
Can one of the talented FJL’s make something in their artistic ability that would blow his mind?
I am thinking along the lines of undead Ronald and the Colonel, shambling after the Fry Guys and McNugget Buddies and trying to eat them. Bonus points for Zombie Hamburglar and Grimace. My husband would be thrilled with a print or painting of this, and would definitely hang it up at work.
I’m on a tight budget right now, but I can do $50.
I am sure you get stupid requests like this all the time, but I am holding out hope that you can help me.
Thanks,
Shannon

Is this scary enough for you?

*cries*
April 3, 2012 at 3:46 pm
If I ever get a real job again, I need this on a mug. Neeeed it.
April 3, 2012 at 6:45 pm
I’m lovin’ it!
April 4, 2012 at 5:31 am
I could sue, you, Ravenclaw, for making me choke on my bagel.
April 3, 2012 at 8:57 am
I would pay for a print of this, too. My dining room walls are terribly bare, and what says “time to eat!” better than zombie food mascots?
April 3, 2012 at 8:59 am
That’s what I’m thinking! The person who comes up with this might sell quite a few of them.
April 3, 2012 at 9:01 am
May your wisdom and generosity help spread the zombie invasion. Although I’m thinking by now they’ve invaded, set up shop and are rallying for zombie equal rights.
April 3, 2012 at 2:56 pm
If the Vampires can be Black Ribboners on the Discworld, zombies can do it here.
April 4, 2012 at 11:02 am
I wish I had more thumbs to give for this.
April 3, 2012 at 9:03 am
The only downside would be finding equally epic art to display with it.
April 3, 2012 at 9:24 am
. . . That HK didn’t buy before you even saw it.

April 3, 2012 at 9:08 am
Ah, crap, didn’t see that. And why did my comment get so many downvotes? It’s not like I was being an asshole, I was just pointing out something.
April 3, 2012 at 9:18 am
The main issue,
methinks, is the fact that a lot of people point out the “obvious” or ask questions that are easily figured out by reading, or re-reading in some cases.Like the CF4L posts, for instance. A lot of people kept asking — I don’t know if they still do, outside of doing so as a joke — what the password for those posts are, when the answer was always staring them in the face. Even after being told how to figure it out, they didn’t understand.
(At least, this used to be the case. I don’t know if it still is, as I don’t pop over to the comment sections (either here or on Facebook) much these days. Not like I used to, anyway.)
April 3, 2012 at 9:26 am
Because we are all assholes here, haven’t you looked at the Etsy forums?
April 3, 2012 at 11:14 am
what’s the CF4L password?
April 3, 2012 at 7:00 pm
Isn’t the password see-eff-four-el?
Perhaps I’m wrong…
April 3, 2012 at 9:18 am
I thought you had a Jamaican accent
April 3, 2012 at 9:05 am
reading is a skill.
April 3, 2012 at 1:20 pm
Love your pic. I have the t-shirt in powder blue.

April 3, 2012 at 9:38 am
Awesome.
April 3, 2012 at 9:43 am
I think the point is something you made yourself and not a random photo you found online.
April 3, 2012 at 9:51 am
I know, but I was thinking perhaps this is the image her hubby saw and so I shared it.

Great picture. Are they zombies, though, or just rivals destroying themselves and the environment in their battle for planetary supremacy?
April 3, 2012 at 2:32 pm
I want that for my screen saver!!!
April 3, 2012 at 7:08 pm
OMFG that is the best!!!
April 3, 2012 at 9:01 am
So little time @.@ must get drawing….
April 3, 2012 at 9:05 am
I did this one a few years ago…
http://blog.marshotelonline.com/2009/06/25/from-my-sketchbook-inspiration/
Maybe it’s time for a companion piece.
April 3, 2012 at 9:11 am
That is awesome
April 3, 2012 at 9:16 am
COOL!
April 3, 2012 at 9:18 am
I’d pay money for a zombie mascot print! Good money!
April 3, 2012 at 9:20 am
A calendar would be pretty awesome!
April 4, 2012 at 7:20 am
a calendar, yes! so many cultural icons to work with!
April 3, 2012 at 9:20 am
Oh man, I can’t wait to see this:-D
Hmm, I like the idea of them chasing down the McNugget kids etc. but I’m also envisioning all these zombie mascots sitting around a table like The Last Supper or Dogs Playing Poker with little bits and pieces of the Fry Kids, McNugget Buddies, their clothes etc. strewn on the floor, the table, still on plates etc. Maybe one can still be chained to the table or against the wall because they’re saving him for when they get hungry again later.
April 3, 2012 at 10:05 am
i love it
April 3, 2012 at 12:39 pm
don’t you mean, “I’m lovin it”?
April 4, 2012 at 11:44 am
I would so buy that.
April 3, 2012 at 9:21 am
awesome project idea! before i read that she was looking for a print, i imagined: ZOMBIE COLONEL BALACLAVA.
April 3, 2012 at 9:23 am
Here are some I’ve done in the past:
Freddie Mercury:

Times Square Zombies:

Eliza Doolittle:
http://www.kylestrahm.com/zombie1.jpg
If I’m selected, I’ll be happy do a couple of concept sketches.
Thanks!
April 3, 2012 at 10:42 am
I think you have to at least do a concept sketch to be selected. Your style is nifty, you should sketch something up quick.
April 3, 2012 at 12:40 pm
Well, he’s a Pro. There’s probably some cost-benefit analysis going on.

April 3, 2012 at 10:45 am
I hate to break it to you buddy, but she probably won’t pick you because you didn’t provide a sketch of the piece in question, just a portfolio of sorts.
With that out of the way. WHERE CAN I BUY THE FREDDIE MERCURY PRINT!
April 3, 2012 at 8:14 pm
Freddie Mercury Print=awesome. wish I had a T-shirt
April 4, 2012 at 5:45 am

I just prowled through kylestrahm.com but there’s no store and I want Freddie Mercury

I can ship the drawing next week. I’m seeing some digital drawings posted on this page. My drawing will be ink on paper.
Shannon, I will work with you to decide which content you’d like the most, but two things I would like to include are COLONEL SANDERS and MANY ZOMBIE CHICKENS.
Here are a few more examples of drawings I’ve done with dark themes.
DARK CRYSTAL (ink on paper): http://www.kylestrahm.com/portfolio/fs/2010/6.jpg
ALIEN with MR. T MASK (ink on paper): http://www.kylestrahm.com/portfolio/fs/2010/8.jpg

Illustration for the comic OFFICER DOWNE (ink on paper): http://www.kylestrahm.com/portfolio/fs/2011/3.jpg
MUCKMAN and JOE EYEBALL (this one is half digital): http://www.kylestrahm.com/MuckmanAndJoeEyeball.jpg
April 4, 2012 at 7:57 am
I love you.
April 3, 2012 at 9:25 am
Please please please please please someone draw Grimace with an eyeball barely hanging on by an optic nerve if he is included. I for some reason can never envision Grimace without one of his eyeballs hanging out. They just don’t fit in his head. Or… lump… or whatever it is that has his face in it. It’s like one touch and the eyeballs would pop out.
No, I have no idea what’s wrong with me, and yes, I am well aware that I need therapy.
April 3, 2012 at 9:28 am
or a little toy one, like those Obie’s, remember those?
http://www.originalobie.com/OBIE_G7PO.html
HAHAHAA!
April 3, 2012 at 3:56 pm
The best part of this is the infinite loop of video. I dont think the internet gets better than that page. Now excuse me.. I have something to watch for the rest of time..
April 4, 2012 at 8:40 am
Egad, I loved mine. My son, at age 2, used to imitate his father using not a Ken doll, but his Obie. Anger management issues, anyone?
April 3, 2012 at 6:58 pm
I could see this the instant I read it. In fact, there’s something so right about this, I doubt I’ll ever imagine Grimace with both eyes intact ever again.!
April 3, 2012 at 9:35 am
We need a regretsy gallery for to buy this shit. (Or, in my case, dream about buying this shit when I get a real job.)
April 3, 2012 at 9:43 am
I would more than likely purchase this. It sounds fantastic!
April 3, 2012 at 9:49 am
I must do this. Fuck homework. I hate that class anyway. Artistic ability don’t fail me now!
April 3, 2012 at 10:16 am
As a professor, I would give you full permission to do homework for my class late in the interest of this project. Although I do hope it isn’t my class you hate. Bonus points if I get a print.
April 3, 2012 at 10:52 pm
I will hand in a note on your behalf
April 3, 2012 at 9:57 am
Does it have to be a painting or drawing? How about an edible chocolate “sculpture”? Screw it, i’m just gonna do it.
April 3, 2012 at 10:25 am
should I continue with this?
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bXwzdxSHWGI/T3syM2ESFtI/AAAAAAAABWY/rNJiOIf0pbU/s1600/mickeyZs.jpg
April 3, 2012 at 10:41 am
YES.
That’s exactly what I envisioned when I read her description. Bravo.
April 3, 2012 at 10:49 am
HOLY BRILLIANT!
April 3, 2012 at 10:53 am
You could get more a sense of shambling chaos by spacing the figures more randomly. Right now, it looks like they’re in a neat formation for glee club or something. Also, to me, Ronald’s and the BK King’s arms look more like ‘here is a magic trick’ than ‘BRAAAAAAAINS’.
Also, need more decay.
Otherwise good!
April 3, 2012 at 11:02 am
I don’t know Fast Food Mascot Zombie Glee Club sounds pretty awesome!
April 3, 2012 at 11:34 am
Imagine their rendition of Thriller!
April 4, 2012 at 7:28 am
AWESTEIN DRAWING!! i hope you win!
i agree with BD, the arms need that look from Night of the Living Dead, desparately grasping thin air, starving for BRAIIIINNNNNNNS
April 3, 2012 at 10:54 am
Colonel nomming on a McNugget. Perfect.
April 3, 2012 at 12:30 pm
By all that is deep fried and greasy, YES! Hell yes!
April 3, 2012 at 2:24 pm
cant figure out how to edit post, so here’s the re-sketch. Moved the chars around a bit and a clearer idea of whats going on.
I could finish this in a week (due to classes and hwk and junk)

where is Burger King’s other hand, though? hmmm *winks*
April 3, 2012 at 4:28 pm
I think it’s spot on. And I love being able to see your work in progress…
April 3, 2012 at 5:17 pm
You for the win. Perfect.
April 3, 2012 at 7:01 pm
Pop out and dangle one of Grimace’s eyes? I’m quite attached to this idea now!

http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=fast+food#/d2669vq
This isn’t mine in anyway shape or form but I thought it was very applicable to this post. Also it is awesome, though no zombies.
April 3, 2012 at 11:17 am
I could do this if it were ferns. I’m really good at drawing ferns now. I wish I had time and artistic ability to enter this…
April 3, 2012 at 11:56 am
April 3, 2012 at 12:43 pm
I love that you included Wendy wielding weapons. Oh, that chainsaw!
April 3, 2012 at 4:29 pm
I’ve always thought Wendy accessorized with power tools…
April 3, 2012 at 7:27 pm
So very Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (seth smith)
April 4, 2012 at 9:32 am
I would SO love to cross stitch this (but I won’t without proper permission, and perhaps a higher resolution file). This is fantastic work!!
April 3, 2012 at 12:58 pm
The only way this idea could be better is if it was a video with the Benny Hill music.
April 3, 2012 at 2:17 pm
Is that like the CSI theme songs? When a show uses a song it loses its own identity?
The song you are thinking of is “Yakety Sax” as performed by Boots Randolf. It is not “Benny Hill music”. That’s what it is, and I am a pedant.
I have nothing but love for people who know the “Colonel Bogey” and “Liberty Bell” marches.
April 3, 2012 at 1:34 pm
Bonus points if you somehow include references to either “Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead” or “Thankskilling”. It just seems logical to me that these would be related to the Colonel becoming a zombie.
I’d do it myself, but I have neither the skills nor the Photoshop abilities. I’d totally buy a print though.
April 3, 2012 at 2:21 pm
My idea is an ad poster in a world (and ad agency) ruled by zombies, and the kind of food they would offer.

April 3, 2012 at 2:31 pm
Due to BSE most places that serve brain sandwiches have switched from cow brains to pig brains. It just isn’t the same.
April 3, 2012 at 6:43 pm
Brain sandwiches? It never was the same.
April 3, 2012 at 2:49 pm
Finger fries!!! I love that!
April 3, 2012 at 3:06 pm
Few, sorry this is so big guys. Wanted to get as much detail as possible for print (A3 print size). c: What do you think? Just needs some colour (I can only really do flat colour). I think im finished with the concept as a whole though…Maybe add a few nuggets here and there.
Sorry if its all too cartoony! I can never draw things like this seriously
Click the image to see it in better detail.
April 4, 2012 at 1:45 am
This reminds me a lot of the drawing shown at the end of Battle Royale.
April 3, 2012 at 3:43 pm
Full size is 11×17, 300dpi. Could probably have this finished in a week, maybe a bit less, because what’s a better way to spend Easter Sunday than drawing zombies?
April 3, 2012 at 5:54 pm
Someone gave me a heads up that my image wasn’t showing up, so here goes again.
April 3, 2012 at 4:52 pm
The Burger King seems to freak people out just with his “normal” look. With just a little bit of dark makeup around his eyes and some distressed robes you could easily push them over the edge!
April 3, 2012 at 5:02 pm
OMG! It’s already begun!

April 3, 2012 at 5:05 pm
So here’s my sketch for it:
http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab255/garamendes/sketchthing.jpg
Kind of a mess but it’ll be repaired and made a lot better when I ink it and color it digitally; I’ll also fix the composition so it’s not crammed into one small piece of computer paper.
Here’s where you can see examples of my finished work so you’ll know how it’ll look when completed:

April 3, 2012 at 5:35 pm
I forgot to say how long it would take to complete, I could have it done by Saturday.

Thanks! I’m working on turning it into a book.
April 4, 2012 at 7:39 am
nice!
i am LOVING seeing all this art in progress!
April 4, 2012 at 12:07 pm
Here’s kind of a better look at what the composition might look like, it’s less crammed now.

GAWD, you’re killing me with Ronald – he reminds me of Pennywise here! Love it, though!
April 4, 2012 at 7:44 pm
Looks like poor Moby never had a chance!
April 3, 2012 at 5:44 pm
Ah, I couldn’t resist making a sketch!
April 3, 2012 at 6:13 pm
The Colonel needs to fall into the Fryer at some point, so he shambles around Extra Crispy.
April 4, 2012 at 3:08 pm
No way! The Colonel sold the company and was only a spokesman when the abomination called “extra crispy” came out. Original Recipe all the way!
April 3, 2012 at 6:17 pm
So, lineart! I need way, way more booze to be able to fix the !@#$ composition.

April 4, 2012 at 6:30 am
Ok it’s coloured XD
I could paint a more realistic version in about a week too, watercolour or oil, but I kinda like it looking like a coloring book.
April 4, 2012 at 6:36 am
Oooookay I think I forgot to add a link XP
Insomnia + booze + marinol= what just happened??
April 3, 2012 at 7:17 pm
Here is my quick sketch…

A larger version can be seen HERE.
April 4, 2012 at 7:41 am
poor lil’ fry guys!
April 3, 2012 at 8:13 pm
Yes, a calendar needs to be made from these!!!
APRIL, A CALENDAR!! *spazzes*
April 3, 2012 at 8:21 pm
this is officially the coolest post. ever.
April 3, 2012 at 8:34 pm

April 4, 2012 at 7:42 am
the Burger King is way scary, as is
April 3, 2012 at 9:14 pm
This is a great thread so far!

I LOVE this one! Great work, you are very talented!
April 3, 2012 at 9:16 pm
April 3, 2012 at 9:18 pm
forgot to type…
So very rough sketch… This would have much more detail and lots of little dead fry guy and such scattered around… probably take a week or so.. Im thinking like a shadow box style with the zombies sorta sticking out of the frame..
April 4, 2012 at 9:30 am
Love this! The Shaun of the Dead nod is fantastic!
April 3, 2012 at 9:37 pm
So, here is the linework. Of course color will add quite a bit to the general feel of the thing. And ALL THE BLOOD!
I feel the need to explain I see Grimace as sort of a juggernaut. Ronald capering around him using that Purple Furry Buttplug of a monster as some sort of grisly shield.
It could be water colored in a week.
April 4, 2012 at 7:45 am
i just realized, we also need the Taco Bell chihuahua in these! since KFC and Taco Bell are owned by the same company.

April 3, 2012 at 10:40 pm
Here’s my sketch. Not finished yet.
April 3, 2012 at 10:59 pm
Alright, here it is. It isn’t a final by any means, I just wanted to get something in! I know there’s composition issues; the final one will look much tighter and cleaner. I wanted to go for a graphic look with a white rim shadow. Hope you like!
April 3, 2012 at 11:10 pm
I realized I forgot Grimace and Hamburglar. PERKELE!
I can easily add them in, and finish it in one week.
April 3, 2012 at 11:29 pm
http://annannannab.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/bloodburger.jpg
There’s mine! I can do this in acrylics on a 16×20 canvas. It’s a fast food joint at night with Col. Sanders as a puppet master.
April 3, 2012 at 11:38 pm
http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o522/straypieceofcake/FastFoodMascotPicture.jpg
This is a rough digital sketch of what can be a more polished acrylic painting. The colors are not what I’d use in the painting exactly and the background colors are totally discussable. Since Shannon said her husband liked fast food mascots I included a few obsure ones like a decaying Ranch Tooth, and the zombie Arby’s Mitt sneaking up from the background on an unsuspecting Ronald, Colonel, and the gang. Zombie Ronald is not sure whether he should go after the Zombie Colonel, who has a fryguy in his grasp, or the fryguy, or the escaping McNugget buddies. The (rabid, perhaps?) Taco Bell dog has taken a bite out of Grimace’s butt. The Hamburgler and Jack in the Box guy lie to the right side near Grimace. I can finish by Sunday, it’d probably be around 20″x16″ acrylic on heavy printmaking paper but I’m flexible.

http://www.furaffinity.net/full/7712451/
Here’s a work in progress. Finishing up soon.
April 4, 2012 at 12:54 am
Here’s my submission! Sorry for the bad quality, I had to take a snapshot with my phone since I don’t have a scanner or pen tablet.
This is a pretty darn rough drawing, but I think it gives a good look at how I would arrange the composition. If I am chosen, I don’t want any money, April. It’s just too much fun drawing this! The finished product will likely be multimedia, consisting of vinyl cutouts to give it a retro, clean-lined, mosaic-ish look similar to a wood cut. I can also make it as a regular ink drawing, or an acrylic painting, but these would take longer as they are not my strongest mediums. I can get the vinyl piece shipped out in a matter of two or three days, but a painting made with wet medium could take a week, or longer, to ship. Whatever you choose, it will be backed by very strong fiberboard and placed in a vinyl jacket to protect the piece. I hope you like it!
April 4, 2012 at 1:01 am
In the final product, obviously there will be much more detail, gore, and victims. I read this post at 11:00 PM at night and I knew I had to finish it before I fell asleep!
April 4, 2012 at 1:28 am
(Grr, stupid inability to edit posts) For the vinyl mosaic, here’s an example of another vinyl piece I did. It’s just a window decal so it isn’t layered, but it’s a good example of the precision and clean lines of my work:

I love that Wendy is weeping over the death of the Burger King. So touching!

Still inking it. Can color if it is wanted. Finishing in a few hours after some sleep.
If colored, I can have it sent out by the 6th.

April 4, 2012 at 7:48 am
great googly moogly, we have a LOT of talent up in here!
damn, i wish i could hold a freaking pencil or stylus
arthritis sucks rocks. i love all these sketches, so fun to see unfinished works.
April 4, 2012 at 3:47 am
I wanted to join in on the fun but my artistic vision told me to do a triptych of portraits instead of one big scene (this is a completely aesthetic decision and not at all because I’m not very good at anatomy) so I’m probably out of the running for the sweet sweet cash but wanted to share anyway. These looked a lot better when I finished them at 2 last night…
April 4, 2012 at 3:48 am
Well they’ve come up stupidly tiny. You can click em to see it bigger though.
If anyone does like them i can colour digitally or do them as proper paintings in watercolour or acrylics

Ooooh! Oooh! I think we’ve forgotten about “Big Boy”! Especially in his earlier “Fat Bastard” incarnations.

I’m gobsmacked by the talent in the FJL pool. I may need to go back to lurking, since I can’t do shit that is artistic. Cheers!
April 4, 2012 at 8:49 am
Snark and “making an idiot of yourself” are talents too
April 4, 2012 at 2:59 pm
Me, neither. The best I can do is go take a picture of the (real) grave of Colonel Sanders, and that isn’t going to cut it. Not that it isn’t cool; it just isn’t what is needed here.

Could be an awesome cf4l password reminder though…

I’m a first time poster, sorry if this comes up twice, I think I messed up the first time.
This is a rough digital sketch of what can be a more polished acrylic painting. The colors are not what I’d use in the painting exactly and the background colors are totally discussable. Since Shannon said her husband liked fast food mascots, I included a few obsure ones like a decaying Ranch Tooth, and the tormented zombie Arby’s Mitt sneaking up from the background on an unsuspecting Ronald, Colonel, and the gang. Taco Bell dog bit Grimace’s butt….not sure what happened to his e

and I got cut off……not sure what happened to Grimace’s eyes, I’ll let you be the story teller for that! Because if one eye popped out is good, two must be great! Right? RIGHT?? Anywho, I can do a 16″x20″ acrylic painting of this on heavy acid-free printmaking paper by Sunday. Can anybody see this post? The one I posted last night seems to only be visible when I sign in??…I’m a newbie, go ahead and laugh at me…

I guess disclaimer like everyone else, it’s just a rough idea sketch. Thinking destroyed golden arches in the background.
