anyone else keep getting an error message? i got it when i tried to log in, and just a second ago when i was commenting. “Error establishing a database connection”
Or were you referring to a PayPal connection? I’m sorry. Work has gotten so fucked up today that I’m just glad the object of my ire works on another floor and I’m too lazy to go up and throw him out the window.
Hate to think how I’d feel if I did not truly and honestly love my job.
I am afraid “clear guideline” does not mean what you think it means. In order to be “clear” your guidelines should be a) easily understood by reasonably intelligent people b) unambiguous and c) understood by your own customer service representatives.
I do not believe your guidelines approach any standard of clear.
Sincerely,
L. G. M.
BUT – I got this message “Access restricted to authorized personnel only” – fucktards.
Also you conveniently can’t actually comment on that. Unless I did it wrong, but it was asking for a username/password, and I don’t see any way to get an account on there.
I tried to leave a comment on that page, and it was totally fubar, so I couldn’t. Here’s what I said about their “apology” which makes the claim that their policies are CLEAR: “Your AUP regarding donations is NOT clear. Under the heading, ‘Activities Requiring Approval,’ the ONLY indication that what regretsy did MIGHT have violated any policy is the statement that pre approval is required for “collecting donations AS a charity or non profit organization” [capitalization mine]. Now, I can see how a reasonable reading would indicate that anything that can be classified as charity falls under acting as a charity, but I can also see how a company that does not pretend to be a charity even a little could read this to mean that to be covered, they would have to claim that they are in fact a charity.” Making people look stupid by saying an unclear policy is clear is the height of condescension and arrogants. Even $10,000 doesn’t make up for that!
I was able to (attempt to) leave a comment on that Issue Resolution, but then something really weird happened.
After I hit Submit, it came back saying “Your comment is awaiting moderation.” No surprise there. But the message it showed as mine wasn’t mine, and the Leave A Comment fields now had the info of somebody who is definitely not me and has never used my computer filled in.
So even though the blog post says they can’t talk about details of the Regretsy thing due to privacy issues, their blog just handed me someone’s email address that was supposed to remain unposted. And maybe gave mine to someone else– fun!
Oh well, at least if they never post the comment from the other user, I got to see it.
Sadie, if you’re out there– I agree with you. It is pathetic.
btw here’s what I tried to post on the paypal blog post: “Your guidelines are totally unclear, as demonstrated on Greengeek and anyone else who bothered to look. It’s not an INCONVENIENCE. It’s a fiasco. For you. Get busy and make it right before you look more ridiculous than you do already. CF4L.”
sorry for the loss. not to Helen/April… to the people that need it.
It is OK that Regretsy takes all powers and concentration to helping.
my spirits (and some of my money) are with you there!!!!!!
I cannot even imagine the headache poor April has today. I’m sad she was forced to deal with this b.s. even on vacation in Finland, and I vote she ditch the advent calendar and just take a few well-deserved days off!
The company I work for, Z2Systems, is offering Regretsy a free CRM database that can not only process donations for her but help with future campaigns. We’re also offering all charities associated with Regretsy 15% off for signing up with us and six months of free group training. Just trying to make sure she knows about this option! Thanks for your work on spreading the word about PayPal.

It’s probably all the traffic from the Gawker article:
http://gawker.com/5865529/internet-rages-over-paypal-ruining-poor-kids-christmas
December 6, 2011 at 10:49 am
Or it could be the traffic from Consumerist, or any number of other sites that picked the story up.

Now that you’ve probably seen the little item for Day 6, you realize that your computer was trying to do you a favor. I wasn’t so lucky.

“Last night we became aware of an issue with one of our account holders, Regretsy.com”. Because they had NO IDEA that there was anything going on.

I attempted to leave this reply on their page -

Yeah I tried leaving a comment a while ago but it told me I was “commenting to fast. Slow down.”
December 6, 2011 at 10:38 am
Maybe they’ve got something so screwed up internally that they’re tracking all the comments as Sadie’s.
She’s very angry, and a very fast typist.

It’s all the traffic on here today.
ARE THEY CAVING?!
December 6, 2011 at 10:44 am

April, if what they are saying is true about Paypal trying to find a resolve with you, make sure the “donation” covers more then the fees they took!

Besides the idiotic “Steampunk” title I have to say I kind of like the ornament. Looks like the relative who had one too many eggnogs.
