I’m not keen on the suspenders (added to the bow, it gets a little too busy for me), but other than that, I think I’ve found a kindred spirit. Love to go shopping/compare closets with her!
Funny, I was just thinking the exact same thing. This is me, in my mind. I generally try for the naughty librarian look, but, sadly, nothing I put together will ever look as wonderful as this.
Yes, the gray – perfect! Someone must make a movie about her. It need not be factual. It should be based around this outfit. Some sort of retro future. And she has a sporty flying car and a jet pack for weekends.
I want this outfit. I’m already planning out a way to make it. The skirt is just like princess seams that start below the bust, with a trumpet skirt. I want her to put on the jacket so I can get a feel for its shape.
I’ve got a pattern for a skirt like that, minus the high waist, that I’ve made twice. It’s ridiculously easy, and flattering. Now I’m thinking of adding a high waist to the pattern (Simplicity 5914). And check out Vogue V8425 for another high-waisted skirt. No trumpet flare, but three high waist styles.
I look at her and think, “She’s a crack shot, black belt in karate, plays tournament-level chess, and has her own chemistry lab at home.” There’s an air of Emma Peel about her; the outfit is supremely slinky and she looks ready to take on the world. She doesn’t need to be outrageous and garish; she has a self-assurance and taste that speaks volumes. Don’t try to take over the world when she’s around.
I have a grey wool skirt that I have had for about 6 years, and every fall I jump for joy to wear it, it’s that cute. But it is SO FREAKIN ITCHY. I have to plan exactly which undergarments/tights to wear so I don’t go mad. But my god it’s cute.
I wanted to grow up and dress like this instead of growing up to dress like a person who can only afford Wal-Mart. Where did I go wrong? Oh, yeah. The kid and the lack of job.
This is EXACTLY what I imagined people in Finland dressing like, except it is WAY better than I ever imagined. If I was single I would move there, fuck cold, I go get wood for the stove barefoot in the snow sometimes anyway!

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS.
November 8, 2011 at 6:21 pm
BOING!!!!

That’s actually super-adorable. Oh god, does that mean I’m a Finster too? I don’t have a drop of Finnish in me.
November 8, 2011 at 6:49 pm
WOULD YOU LIKE SOME
November 9, 2011 at 8:19 am
I have some Finnish in me, but then I get a superdose of quirk from the other Weirdo Scandinavians in my family tree.
I would TOTALLY wear something like this, but with louder colors.
November 8, 2011 at 6:02 pm
This is amazing cute.
November 8, 2011 at 7:15 pm
I almost had the urge to say “totes adorbs” non-ironically. She is just that cute.
November 8, 2011 at 6:09 pm
Yup, apparently I’m a Finnster at heart too. Or maybe in my gonads. I get those confused.
November 8, 2011 at 9:48 pm
Let’s hope you never have a heart attack!
November 9, 2011 at 4:02 pm
The CPR would be epic.
November 8, 2011 at 6:09 pm
I think she’s a confused dominatrix.
November 8, 2011 at 6:12 pm
One can dream…
November 8, 2011 at 6:20 pm
I don’t think she’s confused at all.
November 8, 2011 at 7:24 pm
Sort of Eva Braun sexy?
November 8, 2011 at 7:49 pm
YES! That’s the description that escaped me. Thanks, Aliceblue!
November 8, 2011 at 6:14 pm
That’s how I look on the inside. Pity it doesn’t show.
November 8, 2011 at 6:29 pm
Funny, I was just thinking the exact same thing. This is me, in my mind. I generally try for the naughty librarian look, but, sadly, nothing I put together will ever look as wonderful as this.
November 8, 2011 at 6:37 pm
This says more evil scientist than librarian to me.
November 8, 2011 at 7:02 pm
I was thinking old-timey archaeologist.
November 8, 2011 at 7:06 pm
I just see her in a military lab somewhere with a thick accents shouting “Its alive! IT’S ALIVE!!!” as a giant mutant rat begins to glow neon green.
November 8, 2011 at 7:15 pm
I could definitely see that. But I also like the idea of working on a dig in Egypt and finding alien artifacts.
November 8, 2011 at 8:53 pm
It’s the black gloves that tilt it toward evil scientist.
November 8, 2011 at 9:14 pm
Or maybe she needs a gas mask. “Are you my mummy?”
November 8, 2011 at 11:28 pm
Take a deep breath, gather your courage, and show it. I did, and it’s fun.
November 8, 2011 at 6:15 pm
If this is a hipster look, I have to rethink my dislike of hipsters because I love every, EVERY last detail of this.
November 8, 2011 at 6:19 pm
i want to bring her flowers and carry her books and let her use me as a footstool. <3
November 8, 2011 at 6:19 pm
I’d call this outfit 40s retro rather than hipster. I love it.
November 9, 2011 at 6:09 am
1930′s retro, actually. Not that it matters, because it still rocks.
November 8, 2011 at 6:25 pm
Her outfit is totally adorable and I NEED it….in gray ’cause tan/brown is just ugly to me.
November 8, 2011 at 9:07 pm
You speak undeniable truth. So here, have it.
You are most welcome.
November 10, 2011 at 6:28 am
Just when I thought it was the cutest outfit I ever saw, you went and made it even cuter! I don’t go for brown either. But sometimes I go for pink.
November 10, 2011 at 11:41 am

November 8, 2011 at 9:17 pm
I would do black skirt, white blouse, red bow.
November 8, 2011 at 6:33 pm
She’s like Colonel Saunders wife was sent back to the 20s in Austria… and i LOVE it.
November 8, 2011 at 6:47 pm
Well, crap… Cuz I would totally wear that…
November 8, 2011 at 6:49 pm
It’s a great outfit, totally 40′s retro, some modern touches to keep it from being too twee. Utterly divine; need to see more of this in the US.
November 8, 2011 at 6:59 pm
Yeah, it’s a great look!
November 8, 2011 at 7:56 pm
She and the hat-and-waistcoat guy get together in Helsinki and fight crime! Evildoers beware!
November 8, 2011 at 6:52 pm
I love everything about this. I would kill to be able to pull this look off.
November 8, 2011 at 7:23 pm
She’s a girl after my Dita lovin heart. I want to hang out with her.
November 8, 2011 at 9:12 pm
Me, too.
Maybe “hang out with” is not the way I would phrase it.
November 9, 2011 at 6:38 am
I would also propose marriage to this one.
November 8, 2011 at 7:25 pm
Eat your heart out mtraub. That’s what glasses & vintage SHOULD look like.
November 8, 2011 at 7:41 pm
Ok, she is absolutely adorable!
November 8, 2011 at 7:43 pm
Okay, this is cute and wearable.
November 8, 2011 at 7:49 pm
Is anyone else feeling really warm, um, right now??
November 8, 2011 at 8:18 pm

November 9, 2011 at 2:22 pm
Already ordered the pattern, thank you for the tip, luvvey. She looks brilliant.
November 10, 2011 at 4:06 pm
I’m glad I’m not the only one who wondered about that jacket.
November 8, 2011 at 8:43 pm
Spectacular! I could so pull off this look, except I lack the appropriate accent.
November 8, 2011 at 8:47 pm
Except that it matches a bit too well, I think this is a great outfit…I’ve worn quite a few similar ones proudly and plan to continue to do so.
November 8, 2011 at 9:19 pm

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS OUTFIT. Maybe it’s because I totally have it.
November 8, 2011 at 9:43 pm
Cute. Itchy.
November 10, 2011 at 6:32 am

November 8, 2011 at 9:43 pm
Don’t drink PBR under the apple tree with anyone else but me?
November 10, 2011 at 5:03 pm
LMAO. You are my new hero! Love that song…
November 8, 2011 at 9:43 pm
I wanted to grow up and dress like this instead of growing up to dress like a person who can only afford Wal-Mart. Where did I go wrong? Oh, yeah. The kid and the lack of job.
November 8, 2011 at 10:41 pm
I’m kind of jealous of how adorable she looks.
November 8, 2011 at 10:42 pm
She looks like Audrey Horne – I love it!
November 9, 2011 at 6:13 am
YES! Audrey Horne! And a dash of Emma Peel, I think.
November 9, 2011 at 7:30 am
she reminds me of the lady baddie from the last Indiana Jones movie!
November 9, 2011 at 3:57 pm
This is EXACTLY what I imagined people in Finland dressing like, except it is WAY better than I ever imagined. If I was single I would move there, fuck cold, I go get wood for the stove barefoot in the snow sometimes anyway!
November 10, 2011 at 12:25 am
NURSE, RESTRAIN THE SPECIMEN.
I will bet anything that bag is full of surgical equipment and her real name has both “Doktor” and “Von” in it.
November 10, 2011 at 12:00 pm
i want this!!!!!
November 10, 2011 at 5:04 pm
OMG. I am writing a sci fi comic about a 1930′s female scientist…AND THIS IS HER.
Plus I just really wish I could dress like that all of the time. *le sigh*
November 10, 2011 at 6:22 pm
I find her other outfit pretty cute too:
How do I get this woman to be my personal stylist?
November 11, 2011 at 5:27 pm
And AGAIN…here’s a nice vintage style with enough modernity to keep the twee at bay. This chick has flair to spare.
November 12, 2011 at 7:35 pm
Oh, good, I though I was the only one who loved this.
