Thanks much! It took a REALLY FREEKIN’ long time. I can’t count the hours exactly, but the number wouldn’t be indicative of the hours it would’ve taken had I not sliced off a portion of the top of my ring finger in the carving process.
A true artist makes sacrifices for her art. An Etsy artist would sell the fingertip, attached to a piece of barnwood and sprinkled with glitter. We all know in which camp you’re firmly ensconced. Great job of carving!!!
ROFL! Okay, that totally cracked me up. In shame, I admit to also being an Etsy artist, and even one who occasionally uses glitter, sequins, and the like for performance costuming. Now… where did I put that finger slice? Anyone know where I can find a barn?
I inverted my base photo for reference (since I’m used to putting more work into shadows), and scooped out the inverted shadows with an exacto knife and an itty bitty spoon. I cut out the horns completely, carved them, and then put them back in, sticking out slightly from the pumpkin surface.
