I thought the first one was anthropology, because of the addition of “gold”… gotta class it up a little bit for the mainstream hipsters.

And somehow tat class makes it worth $428 to the etsy seller’s $36.

Check out the “purl one” bracelet that pops up beside the starfish bracelet-
I used to do that empty-spool-from-thread with nails in it knitting when I was a kid. I used the finished tubes as cat strings. Too bad I wasn’t sticking some cheap steel chains onto it and selling it for a fortune like these bastards!

        here is the necklace:
        http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=22526016&parentid=BAYNOTE
and the bracelet I spoke of:
        http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=22526321&catId=JEWELRY-BRACELETS&pushId=JEWELRY-BRACELETS&popId=JEWELRYACCESSORIES&navCount=36&color=012&isProduct=true&fromCategoryPage=true&isSubcategory=true&subCategoryId=JEWELRY-BRACELETS&templateType=subCategory

I can’t believe they’re selling stuff a child could make for near $200! I also saw a snood for over $200! I haven’t looked at Anthropologie before and they sicken me. Not only are they drawing customers who want a homemade look away from real crafters but they’re ripping off the customer too! Why the hell do people shop there? I read one for a simple little beaded bracelet & the first feedback was “Totally worth the money!” which blew my mind, as it was also in the $100-200 range. Idiots abound.

Yes, but on etsy it would be hairballs collected from the seller’s own cat, while the Anthropologie ones are made from the fur of cats captured on the streets of China and eaten by the sweatshop workers knitting the bracelets.

The Etsy knob is tagged “handmade” and “anthriopology,” so clearly Anthropologie stole her product idea and stole the name of their store from her tags. But they misspelled it.

There may have been time-travel involved by one or both parties as well, since the item is also tagged “vintage.”

IT’S THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES SENSE.

I usually get these right by betting that the better-made item is on Etsy and the piece of craft is from Anthropologie.

I agree with you both. The Etsy cuff is pretty. The Anthro one is not just less pretty but downright ugly!
But I think the Etsy has to be a reseller.

And I too thought the knob was “No on prop 522″. But no, it’s just a weird product.
It’s a pet peeve of mine when people use “No.” or “#”, because it’s obviously a number, we don’t need to be notified that it’s a number! Like I live in Apartment 202, not Apartment NUMBER 202.

Still, the Etsy reseller POS is superior in quality and design when compared to the Anthropollogee (or whatever twee spelling they’re using) one.

Yep without Govt creating stricter regulations in regards to financial insitutions, it won’t change from the top. But if people boycott said institutions (and unethical corporations), they will fail, which is why people are closing bank accounts and opening credit union accounts etc. Buy from small, independent and preferably local vendors instead. The Govt won’t want big businesses to fail so they will have to step in and regulate them. The fact that people are thinking (and hopefully acting) means Occupy is making a difference. ok….

I’m with you 100% regarding credit unions. I’ve been in one for about 25 years and it’s great. The interest rates on savings aren’t higher (or only fractionally so) than banks, but the service is terrific, and lots of perks (I bounce a check, it’s only $5–lots of banks charge $30, so I’m saving $25!!!!)

I was once a teller in a commercial bank. I know how rude I was and I was the nicest person there!

Targetting big banks, transferring all your funds to credit unions, I don’t think thats any kind of solution. People panicing and pulling all of their money out of the banking system in the 20s was one of the things (along with the stock market crash, the dust bowl, etc) that caused the Great Depression. Also, if the big banks crash, hundreds more people will be out of a job, adding to the already high unemployment rate. True, credit unions will need to hire more people to deal with the sudden increase in business, but isn’t that just recreating the big banks again?

I want to like the Occupy Wallstreet campaign, and I definitely think there needs to be change, but the rallying cry against the rich is getting us no where. Somewhere we need to step up and offer solutions, VIABLE solutions. Higher taxes for the rich, more regulation for big businesses and banks, that’s all well and good, but that doesn’t get us any JOBS.

Lady Kwake…When you join a credit union, you get shares in it – credit unions are owned by their customers so it is absolutely not re-creating big banks. Putting money into CU’s is still keeping it in the system – in the Depression people stuffed it under their beds which meant it “disappeared”. We, the consumer, have ultimate power and if we stop giving it away to the very corporate types that got us into this mess, they will be forced to behave differently. There are some very specific solutions (mainly to do with the separation of Govt and big business), but I won’t post them here. For individuals, it’s about being wise where you keep and spend your money. A little thought goes a long way – why not?

Runs on banks weren’t a cause of the Great Depression, the banks were already insolvent at the time, however they did cause massive amounts of economic damage as people who didn’t manage to get their money out of the banks lost it. At the time there was no FDIC insurance to protect bank customers.

Now if people were pulling out all their money in cash and stuffing it under a mattress instead of withdrawing a check or wire transfer to another account (with a CU or local bank) it would be a problem. However most people aren’t doing that, they are closing and moving their accounts.

Letter-writers and voters work within the system. Demonstrators work to a great extent outside of it, which is really handy when the system is owned by robber barons who want to live in a socialist paradise run by slaves.

Remember, it only took 100k people bused in by rich mineral interests and a few gullible yahoos with guns to kill any hope of getting the financial industry out of health care.

Dear GOD! That is some tacky jewelry! I think this kind of stuff should come with little gold stickers attached (a-la “made in china”) that say “MADE IN ETSY” instead…

You mean you don’t like iridescent rhinestones, clear rhinestones, pearls, unidentifiable acrylic gems and cheap silver tone metal, all on the same piece of jewelry?

@ amazon: If you don’t like that shit you must be an old, unfashionable, dried-up cunt.

No, seriously. It’s impossible to find inexpensive jewelry (I’m a po’ bitch, what do you want?) that isn’t loaded with at least 3 tiers of blinding bling-chunks. Or goddamn owls. Or both.

I prefer my jewelry to be multi-purpose: earrings that are handcuff keys, rings that carry poison, wonderwoman bracelets to stop zombie bites, that sort of stuff.

I honestly liked the Etsy versions better than the Anthropologie.

Except the knob, of course, which is identical, and needs to be gobbled, just so I can call somebody a KNOBGOBBLER!!!!

At first I thought the knob was some sort of political button, like “Vote NO on proposition 522!”, and I was very curious to know the deeper meaning. When I found out there WAS no deeper meaning, I became very befuddled as to how such a random piece of shite could be suitable for anyone’s dream kitchen makeover. Maybe if the theme for the decor was “graffiti”.
I think I need to see it in a room to truly understand, HK!

Two people reviewed the knobs on the Anthropologie site. Two people took the time to write a description of their pleasure and minor disappointment with drawer knobs that they paid $8 a piece for.

I have the same feeling I get when I have to yell at the dogs to stop licking the bottom of the fridge door: complete and profound bafflement at why anyone would take the time to do such a thing.

I imagine when the Consumer Reports knob issue comes out, I’ll be the one with egg on my face.

Well if you want to be really geeky 522 is the sum of 6 consecutive prime numbers 73 + 79 + 83 + 89 + 97 + 101 but I tend to over think these things.

Yeah, I don’t understand the point of slapping knobs labeled with arbitrary numbers on your drawers unless you’re going for a “creepy laboratory” look. Failed test subject no. 522 in that drawer… Botched experiment no. 351 in this one…

Although I am very, very tempted to request 666.

I saw those knobs at Hobby Lobby. There is irony in the fact someone will pay 8$ for a door knob and they are a knob to complain about the quality of their eight dollar purchase – but I cant make the snark.
