New Treasury: Ship Shape
The other day, I put up this post about how a shipping option made it to the front page of Etsy.
I just got a link to this treasury, which someone posted on Etsy today:

It will undoubtedly be removed by Etsy’s Happytime Cuppycake Elves by the time you see this, but screencaps are awesome.
UPDATE: Not only have the Funsville Police not taken down this treasury yet, it now has over 16 pages of comments, 16,000 views and is presently the most popular treasury on Etsy.
All of which may have prompted this one, which I also like quite a bit:

UPDATE: I can only hope this is becoming a new meme.
UPDATE: After 9 exhilarating hours, The Ship Shape treasury has apparently been taken down. Fortunately, someone just made this, so balance has been restored.

UPDATE: And then this happened.

You misspelled “ridonk.”
March 31, 2011 at 12:23 am
you mean “rederp”
March 30, 2011 at 8:42 pm
Spelling aside, I love your name
March 30, 2011 at 1:36 pm
Next it will be pictures of actual postal employees. Ones with the looks of disgust on their faces.
March 30, 2011 at 1:38 pm
Don’t you mean “discust”?

Which would be fucking hilarious. Hmmm…maybe that’s what I need in my shop….
March 30, 2011 at 3:06 pm
How many you want?
I work at post office AND which is even better… they would be pictures of a European postal worker. Almost like… exotic or sumtin’.
March 30, 2011 at 5:10 pm
If they’re posed on barnwood and/or can be used multipurpose I’ll take the lot.
March 31, 2011 at 11:30 am
Our local German postal worker is really cute. The old lady that also works there is also cute, but in a really different way.
March 30, 2011 at 5:24 pm
It would be whimsicle, that’s for sure.

Honestly, can’t we use this sort of dedication to storm the forums and raise some Etsy admin hell until things change?
March 30, 2011 at 9:51 pm
And here’s what Etsy admins are doing with thier day:

March 30, 2011 at 1:37 pm
Are those just random sellers or are they “in the know”?
If it’s the former and not the latter.. Then the comments are almost as funny as the Treasury itself.
“TOO CUTE AND FUNNY!” to quote a featured seller. I don’t think they understand.
March 30, 2011 at 1:44 pm
I understand they are “in the know”:)
March 30, 2011 at 1:57 pm
I saw that too. I guess it’s too much to hope for that the two featured sellers who raved about the treasury did so sarcastically with a full understanding of the joke.
March 30, 2011 at 2:58 pm
Yeah, I’m kind of guessing that the vast majority of comments are tongue in cheek by Regretsians. I actually snorted my wine when I saw the comments by featured sellers. HELLO! You’ve just been called out you stupid twits!
March 30, 2011 at 5:45 pm
Haha well naturally I meant the featured sellers.
Quite obvious many of the general comments know what the Treasury is getting at.
March 30, 2011 at 10:04 pm
I love this comment:
blackgermanshepherd says:
An apple? Wouldn’t wool felted bacon be a better choice?
March 30, 2011 at 1:37 pm
YES! This drives me nuts! ‘Cause, ya know, I’d like to over a separate listing for rush, or upgrades, or gift packaging, or what the hell ever. But I can’t. ‘Cause it’s not allowed. ‘Cause I have ethics. Or, it’s because sure as shit I’D be the one that would get caught for it. Yeah, probably that last one. Ethics schmethics.
I love that people that are featured commented. They are clueless. I think that’s the best part about this whole exercise.
March 30, 2011 at 1:38 pm
Oh wait…I got a new little icon guy. I miss my triangle monster dude. This guy just looks confused.
March 30, 2011 at 1:45 pm
I don’t like my new guy either…
March 30, 2011 at 4:12 pm
I like my new one.
March 30, 2011 at 2:31 pm
I preferred the vaguely Space Invaders ones we had when I first signed up… in the bygone days of last week.
March 30, 2011 at 4:07 pm
He looks like a marshmallow…nom nom nom…
March 30, 2011 at 1:47 pm
To be honest it’s etsy’s fault that shipping can not be “flexible” with options, so this is just a solution for a problem that should have been long ago fixed by etsy – after all we pay them well…
March 30, 2011 at 2:36 pm
It’s another listing that these sellers have to pay for, and Etsy makes money off of these listings too, so why should they care?
March 30, 2011 at 2:53 pm
:/ heh if etsy had a way for us to provide a priority mail option IN THE FUCKING LISTING for a buyer to CHOOSE if they so wanted, most sellers wouldn’t feel the need to do this shit and also violate TOS.. but etsy is too damn busy with cupcake patrol instead of thinking of ways to improve the site.
March 30, 2011 at 3:31 pm
I know, one flat shipping rate for anywhere in a single country. I get so damn frustrated with that. I guess they’re like ebay, what with pushing free shipping.
March 30, 2011 at 9:37 pm
Don’t get me started on how long I’ve been holding my breath for size and/or color options in listings.
March 30, 2011 at 2:55 pm
WAIT! What happens when someone buys one of these listings, and nothing else from the shop??
March 30, 2011 at 3:10 pm
I imagine the fair thing to do would be to send just the box. Remember, you’re paying for the fun, not the item!
March 30, 2011 at 3:27 pm
The world explodes.
March 30, 2011 at 6:15 pm
I’ve been quite tempted to add a listing for a shipping upgrade that includes an “item” to make it legal – like, buy this packing peanut for .20 and get it shipped for five bucks.
March 30, 2011 at 7:57 pm
It should be a HAND MADE packing peanut. You could bedazzle the crap out of it.
March 30, 2011 at 9:02 pm
Frequent buyers could make an upcycled bedazzled packing peanut charm bracelet.
March 31, 2011 at 1:52 am
Or it could be listed as supplies…
March 30, 2011 at 1:38 pm
Damn, I wish I could make handmade shipping options!
March 30, 2011 at 3:26 pm
I guess handmade shipping would be if you walked to the buyer’s house and delivered the product in person, by hand…?
March 30, 2011 at 3:27 pm
But I can’t figure out how to make it steampunk.
March 30, 2011 at 3:38 pm
Wear goggles
March 30, 2011 at 3:50 pm
And several Hobby Lobby octopi.
March 31, 2011 at 8:31 am
Actually, a “handcrafted” packing box could screw this rule. Why, no sir, I ain’t selling DHL shipping for $45, I’m selling this little craft paper envelope with a sharpie mustache, that I’ll ship in a big box (only for safe keeping!) by DHL absolutely for free!
March 30, 2011 at 1:38 pm
Did we just crash a treasury? Its not working for me anymore. We are amazeballs.
March 30, 2011 at 1:49 pm
I got a comment up and it was at 4 pages of comments already!
March 30, 2011 at 2:53 pm
Now it’s up to 9 pages of comments.
March 30, 2011 at 4:47 pm
12 when I left mine.
March 30, 2011 at 1:39 pm
I dont even understand posting these. Am i missing something about how etsy shipping works?
March 30, 2011 at 1:48 pm
I really dont get the point of thumbing down instead of fucking answering a simple fucking question.
March 30, 2011 at 1:54 pm
I think that Etsy does not allow you to list a shipping option as its own listing. But lots of people do it anyway and Etsy doesn’t do anything about it. Hence the irony.
March 31, 2011 at 8:34 am
Oh no! “Irony” is one step away from becoming “hipster”! We gotta get back into “snark” mode.
March 30, 2011 at 1:57 pm
I don’t think it’s genuine Regretsy people thumbing you down. There’s been a really odd number of posts being thumbed down for no reason.
March 30, 2011 at 2:04 pm
Click on the “I put up this post” and you’ll get it.
March 31, 2011 at 6:50 am
I will second tardis’ suspicion. Why? Because Regretsians know that you can always click to see a post that’s hidden due to low rating. In fact, some of us just click those when we’re pressed for time. Non-Regretsians who come here, shaking and sweaty, their bowels rumbling, hoping to shut us up, haven’t quite figured that out yet.
BTW, I don’t know why Etsy has made this such an issue, either. I will have to read their policies very carefully, someday.
March 30, 2011 at 2:55 pm
This is in reference to a previous Regretsy post where Etsy had a shipping option on its front page treasury.
http://www.regretsy.com/2011/03/28/peck-of-the-day-4/
March 30, 2011 at 1:39 pm
I posted this in the comments section…I would be sad if etsy removed it.
“I’m starting to think etsy is a communist biatch who doesn’t care what the little people think.
thats why everyone should be socialist! FREE HEALTHCARE YEAHHHHH”
March 30, 2011 at 1:40 pm
Oh, here go hell come.
March 30, 2011 at 1:41 pm
I wish I could thumb up a bunch of times!
March 30, 2011 at 1:40 pm
Such a beautiful use of color and texture.
March 30, 2011 at 3:01 pm

March 30, 2011 at 4:14 pm

March 30, 2011 at 1:40 pm
Can hardly wait for the knitted, felted & ‘crotched’ Handling Treasury.
March 30, 2011 at 3:12 pm
Real crafters do it on barnwood.
March 30, 2011 at 3:24 pm
Now that’s a tee shirt I would buy (with appropriate level 4 photoshopped artwork, of course).
April 1, 2011 at 12:03 am
A quick photoshop for you all.
March 31, 2011 at 3:22 am
With glitter.
March 30, 2011 at 1:41 pm
Madebymoxie must be a regretsy reader.
March 30, 2011 at 1:41 pm
I should take photos of the Priority USPS envelopes I send my prints in… I can even take photos of myself at the post office, showing me at the counter.
It’ll be like a story! That’ll be my next listing… “Adventures in Priority Mail with the USPS!”
The femailman who is at the counter almost all the time when I go there loves my photography. She has several prints. I hand-delivered those to her. You know, because she was right there.
March 30, 2011 at 1:44 pm
If you do that, I will write a shitty poem about you and you can put it on the photo in comic sans. So lovely.
March 30, 2011 at 2:03 pm
And then price it for $100,000 because it took you a lot of time to take the picture.
March 30, 2011 at 2:18 pm
Just imagine for how much you could sell it if you crocheted a nice little UPS-vagina to go along with the photo.
I’d be an instant bestseller.
March 30, 2011 at 3:08 pm
not comic sans… Papyrus!
March 31, 2011 at 7:58 am
Papyrus is too trendy. Papyrus is for followers. I’m doing my own thing, man.
March 30, 2011 at 1:53 pm
Femailman! Hee hee hee… why am I picturing a drag queen in a postal worker’s uniform?
March 30, 2011 at 2:32 pm
I can’t take credit for “Femailman”, I done stole that up from “The Simpsons” when Bart sent away for something on the back of a comic book.
March 30, 2011 at 3:16 pm
D’oh, it means Iron (Fe) Mail Man! Superhero who works for postal services in his spare time!
March 30, 2011 at 1:41 pm
the featured sellers are hilarious.
March 30, 2011 at 1:42 pm
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahahaThe fonts are SPECTACULAR! Where can I find such talent?!
March 30, 2011 at 1:43 pm
That is a terrible treasury. Those items are all different colors. They would not look yummy and adorable all clustered together on my weatherbeaten breakfront, or in front of a gauzy white curtain blowing over a dove grey wall.
March 30, 2011 at 1:46 pm
And not ONE of the items is on barnwood!
*Flounce*
March 30, 2011 at 1:47 pm
Where is the startled, pixie-like girl in a leotard? Where is the whimsy? This treasury CLASHES. This treasury sucks.
March 30, 2011 at 9:01 pm
Aw the hotness police have replaced it with “fluffy bunny wabbits for easter” treasury at number one in the treasury charts despite it having less views clicks and whatever other magical mystical whimsical shit.
March 30, 2011 at 1:47 pm
Oh yeah? Stick ‘em on a piece of barn board and see what happens!
March 30, 2011 at 1:44 pm
Awesome Treasury!! Funny how Etsy will probably delete this treasury, but the won’t delete the listings that violate Etsy TOU’s. On second thought, it’s not funny.
March 30, 2011 at 1:45 pm
The treasury comments are priceless!
March 30, 2011 at 9:09 pm
im sad i missed it
March 30, 2011 at 1:45 pm
It is still up! Oh my lord I love how fucked up all of us on the internet are.
March 30, 2011 at 1:45 pm
I’m loving the comments people are leaving on the page.
Such yummy shipping options in such pretty colors! It’s whimsickle!!!!!!!!
March 30, 2011 at 1:46 pm
Oh yeah? Stick them all on a piece of old barnboard and see what happens!
March 30, 2011 at 1:47 pm
ooops. Double posted in the wrong places….
March 30, 2011 at 1:46 pm
This calls for a website design upgrade on Etsy, which doesn’t seem too hard since it already has an option to let sellers set different shipping costs by destination country. Don’t tell me that Etsy has fired all its tech-savvy personnel, or I will yell “Say what?!” and push my way into that position.
On a somewhat related note, I think Etsy could create a “resellers” section too – this way, the resellers have no excuse to put on a fairytale facade, and Etsy will still keep its profit.
March 30, 2011 at 1:55 pm
Your ideas are well thought out, reasonable, and defensible. They make sense, would help the Etsy community, and probably even increase profit.
They will therefore be ignored. Please feel free to submit more ideas, but include faeries, men in leotards, a bedazzler and type it with mis-matched typographical fonts.
March 30, 2011 at 3:53 pm
what? and not keep getting their “free samples” for personally helping resellers disguise their junk with florid language? Why, that would seriously crimp Admins xmas office gift exchange!
March 30, 2011 at 8:21 pm
That would all just make too much sense. Where’s the irony? Totally goes against Etsy’s methodically constructed brand image.
Be sure to wear goggles and a facinator for leverage during your interview. And don’t turn down the Earl Grey, even if you think it will make you barf. The deck is already stacked against getting a call back. You sound way too competent and efficient to bust into their corporate culture.
March 30, 2011 at 9:47 pm
@monaschmona: Seriously, do you need a job? Are you a software developer, html goddess, or some other kind of code monkey?
If so, you could help to create an alternative to Etsy’s bullshit.
I’ve already seen posts by April’s Army’s ‘generals’ (btw, they’re all pretty awesome people) stating that if they had the tech people to build and maintain it, they’d love to have a paying job doing what they love so much they’re already do it for free.
Think about it:
1,100+ April’s Army team members.
72,000+ Regretsy Facebook followers.
350,000+ Regretsy web users.
While I don’t have numbers on the people using the FORUMS, there’s gotta be a lot of them. And Wordpess is continuing to grow. The forum users are a huge resource for bug testing, UI design consultation, and democratic TOS policy review for community members, by community members.
Just say’n…
March 31, 2011 at 10:00 am
Timidly here… I actually do some web development (PHP/mysql/ajax) and I’d consider helping out if we could find some other coders.
March 31, 2011 at 7:22 pm
Haha, I wish I could make a living by handicrapping and freeflouncing all day. Too bad I am already a webmaster of a very active student government and a full-time grad student, so for now, I prefer to just throw ideas out there and point fingers at other people’s faults without taking the responsibility.
But thanks for reinforcing the idea! I am very pleased that there are people with brainz who care.
March 31, 2011 at 10:31 am
They haven’t been fired, they’re just too busy taking photos of each other in Etsy labs. Have you seen the photos with people NOT holding ridiculous cardboard cutouts? Those are the techies.

Senses of humor: 1
Pretension: 0
March 30, 2011 at 1:47 pm
This could only be made better if some of the tags for these items were ‘steampunk’.
March 30, 2011 at 1:52 pm
They’ve got the steampunk colors down pat.
March 30, 2011 at 8:40 pm
‘Multipurpose’ and ‘mustache’ wold be nice too.
For all those people that really want their mustaches, and they want them right fucking NOW!
March 30, 2011 at 1:48 pm
Does anyone know of a seller who ships Priority Mail in ACTUAL BARN WOOD packaging? I would favorite that shop.
March 30, 2011 at 1:48 pm
Such greatness!
March 30, 2011 at 1:48 pm
It could also be called “Pack It In”
March 30, 2011 at 3:20 pm
Especially if you put vaginas on them.

I want to see Sad Hipster at the post office in his sad sweater trying to fill out a package insurance form.

These things really happen, I’ve seen the DVD.

Artsy packaging is an art that Japanese school girls master centuries ago…

But SHIPPING art is an Etsy first!
March 30, 2011 at 2:08 pm
Can we make a “Marlboro Treasury” next?

workin on it.

A Smoking Treasury. Dedicated to MORONS who smoke. Like me.
March 30, 2011 at 3:30 pm
I clicked your treasury and was told that it was “experiencing some issues” The fuck does that mean? Has it flounced? Is it full of hipster angst and hiding in the closet? Does it just need to be told that it is beautiful and worthy of love? Let us know; we’re here to help.
March 30, 2011 at 6:28 pm
I don’t know, the link took me right to it. Your computer must be having a moment.
March 30, 2011 at 4:42 pm
Love the framed rubber lips! Can they be used multipurpose, do you think? Or only for smoking?
March 30, 2011 at 1:51 pm
the priority postage eagle should have a little mustache.

It’s the hottest treasury on Etsy right now! Nice job you guise!!!

March 31, 2011 at 3:35 am
You would think Etsy would get the hint as to how many regretsyans there are and start paying attention.
March 30, 2011 at 1:54 pm
I’m disappointed that there’s no vaginal shipping options. WTF!
March 30, 2011 at 3:12 pm
FORE WOMYN OWNLEE shipping option!
March 30, 2011 at 1:54 pm
When you sort by “hotness” on the Treasury page, this one is at the top. Even though it doesn’t include any barnwood, fascinators, or taupe.
March 30, 2011 at 1:55 pm
Too bad the hotness of this treasury will lead to it’s doom ><
March 30, 2011 at 2:02 pm
Nah, that would require people at EtsyHQ to pull their heads out of their asses long enough to hit a delete button. And we know they aren’t capable of that.
March 30, 2011 at 3:46 pm
Well, in their defense, they are terribly busy hunting down resellers and making Etsy more like Facebook. How could they be bothered with something as trivial as this? /sarcasm off
March 30, 2011 at 5:08 pm
well DUH, it’s HAPPY HOUR in Williamsburg…
March 31, 2011 at 10:36 am
Well, this isn’t the first snarky treasury (remember TheBlueKraken’s fabulous owl treasury?), and it didn’t take Etsy long to take it down, I’m afraid. Of course I’m sure the resellers that were being called out are still alive and well.
March 30, 2011 at 2:03 pm
So super kitsch guys!
March 30, 2011 at 2:03 pm
my icon changed! Where’s my weird monster dude???
blarg.
March 30, 2011 at 7:04 pm
I like your new guy, with the eyepiece.
March 30, 2011 at 9:07 pm
Yes, the monocle adds a certain air of refinement.
March 30, 2011 at 2:04 pm
I to find the orange truck cute! WTF!!! Do they have some sort of word limit they have to hit everyday so their souls don’t escape out their assholes. “Must say cute 97 more times today on Etsy or I will become a soul less drone” Fucking hipsters! This is why I drink
March 30, 2011 at 2:08 pm
Just a thought – since the whole thing was done in snark, the comment was probably also in snark…
March 30, 2011 at 4:44 pm
That’s just what I thought. It is much less depressing to think that than to think there are people THAT clueless. Don’t burst my bubble, anyone!
March 30, 2011 at 5:13 pm
I’m thinking pretty much all of the comments, with the exception of the two featured sellers who weighed in, were done with snarkiness in mind.
There are over 10,000 views of the treasury and more than 11 pages of comments, but I think most of the comments were Regretsy readers and/or April’s Army members.
March 30, 2011 at 2:05 pm
Holy shit, this is funny. Well done, Moxie! You’re awesome.
I like the comment(paraphrasing) “I want to buy them all, but how much would shipping be for that?” LOLZ

BWAHAHAHAHA!hahahahaMarch 30, 2011 at 2:16 pm
Ironically, this whole post has made me laugh enough to take my stress level and anger AT the USPS for losing a package of mine today down a notch. Thank you!
March 30, 2011 at 2:18 pm
There was a treasury JUST like that yesterday, too. It was called out in the etsy forums, and of course locked eventually, and the treasury magically disappeared.
All of the items featured in it are sure as hell still up, though.
March 30, 2011 at 2:22 pm
Why, what a quaint little batch of shops. It’s just like walking downtown in the historic district, where you can spend the entire afternoon browsing in and out of shops with names like Moonbeam and Arabesque and still come up with nothing.
March 30, 2011 at 2:24 pm
And I don’t mind my new little icon. It expresses the way I feel about most of the “artistes” featured here on Regretsy.
If he glittered, he’d be damn near perfect.
March 30, 2011 at 2:26 pm
That treasury is making me thirsty.
March 30, 2011 at 3:11 pm
how the HELL do they ship a cup of coffee with the heart swirl. By the time it gets to the buyer, it’s all cold and mixed up.
I call “false advertising”!
March 30, 2011 at 3:38 pm
mmmmm…. coffee….
March 31, 2011 at 7:11 am
Hey . . . . that’s MY photo pendant in your treasury!
Thanks for the publicity!
March 31, 2011 at 10:36 am
Thumbs down? Really? I’m not offended to be in this treasury – I’m just sincerely thanking Veronica for the include.
March 30, 2011 at 2:32 pm
It is still there – amazing! Etsy elves today are lazy.
March 30, 2011 at 5:56 pm
Yeah, well, the Union’s been busy lately trying to negotiate for dental care.
Oh oh oh, ETSY elves. Not REGRETSY elves. My bad.

In the shrunk down preview image of the screen cap. the C and L in clicks end up squished together so it appears it’s dicks. 0 dicks? SO SAD.
March 30, 2011 at 2:45 pm
I’m going to open an Etsy shop and offer nothing but shipping upgrades. And then add and extra charge for shipping & handling of said shipping upgrades.
March 30, 2011 at 3:42 pm
Will you offer gift wrapping as well?
March 30, 2011 at 2:47 pm
I wonder if Etsy thinks “Shipping Treasury” is a fleet of handmade boats.
March 30, 2011 at 2:48 pm
this makes me feel like i’m wearing drunk goggles
March 30, 2011 at 2:54 pm
Cameoland, who does really cute work, asked why they don’t just make this legal.
Can such logic be allowed to stand?
March 30, 2011 at 3:18 pm
Between April’s Army and the new forums, it’s like a twenty story fan’s been turned on in Brooklyn, and everyone’s flinging shit into it. Not that that’s a bad thing…
March 30, 2011 at 3:20 pm
I cannot believe how many clicks it has…
But, I will admit that I clicked one.
March 30, 2011 at 5:10 pm
Good! That makes it “hotter” & keeps it on the front page!
March 30, 2011 at 3:35 pm
OMG – now etsy’s front page is all nautical stuff-hand pecked!
March 30, 2011 at 3:41 pm
Right now, in Etsy headquarters…

March 30, 2011 at 4:07 pm
Betty tried her best to quit smoking, but the smoking refused to QUIT HER!
March 30, 2011 at 3:45 pm
Bah, this is the current message:

Sorry, but Treasury is currently experiencing some issues.
We are working to get it back up as soon as possible. Thanks!
HAH – I call shenanigans!!!
March 30, 2011 at 7:08 pm
Drat – apparently it WAS just a snafu….>:(
March 31, 2011 at 4:31 am
mine did that a few times. we’re just overloading it, i guess. win!
March 30, 2011 at 3:57 pm
I noticed when checking out the relative hotness of this particular treasury that they have a tag for “April trends”.
I’m faintly disappointed that this wasn’t tagged with it, but apparently it’s not code for subversive Regretsian activity, it means pastel spring flowers, fluffy lambs and all that.
March 30, 2011 at 4:08 pm
Still the hottest treasury by far. Over 8000 hits, next best is well under 2000. I love it.
March 30, 2011 at 4:11 pm
Awesome! Civil disobedience at its whimsicle fuckeriest!
March 30, 2011 at 4:23 pm
Gawd… I just got an idea for “Whimsicle” cross stitch pattern… Regretsy is a very dangerous place to be at 2 am.
Off to design.
March 30, 2011 at 4:29 pm
Muses are cruel bastards
I just realized that Etsy is the mustachioed, glitter-covered version of “the Man.”
And visions of Freddie Mercury danced through my head….
March 30, 2011 at 4:31 pm
Freddie Mercury. <3
March 30, 2011 at 5:26 pm
More than perfect. It has vaginas.
March 30, 2011 at 5:29 pm
Which wasn’t my intention. HONESTLY.
I think I should sell those at Etsy.
March 30, 2011 at 7:40 pm
Hey I think I started some kind of trend with my “BaLETED” by the staff treasury. maybe the staff will wake the hell up………. or not (not a chance in fucking hell)
March 30, 2011 at 4:41 pm
Priceless, just like we’ve come to expect from Etsy.
And I figured out why they will remove a reseller’s listings but not actually shut the shops down- that’s so they can inflate the numbers of sellers that the Investors see.
March 30, 2011 at 5:00 pm
Flat Stanley approves.
March 30, 2011 at 5:16 pm
If I could give this guy a hug, I would. His comment made my day.

March 30, 2011 at 5:52 pm
Disney might be interested about that treasury in HK’s update…
March 30, 2011 at 6:02 pm
You can really tell the superior quality of the $10.99 decal over the $7.99 one.
You get what you pay for people.
March 30, 2011 at 6:23 pm
since there are SOOO many of these shipping listings, doesn’t that give the people at etsy a freaking clue of what to improve? or do they like the extra $0.20? (of course they do! stupid question…) are they too busy drinking a $10 latte out of a mustached mug?
whatever the case these listings are freaking ANNOYING, much more than the mustached shit and octopussies. I’m a software developer, I can tell you that it’s not that difficult make a better system where sellers can offer more complex shipping options at checkout. Hire me! Or don’t… I’m probably not hip enough to work there anyway. it’s such a simple thing to fix… and it seems like a somewhat high priority item as well…
March 30, 2011 at 6:29 pm
USPS Priority Shipping on barn wood.
March 30, 2011 at 8:05 pm
I like the subtle touch of the bootprint. It speaks of angst. Perhaps the shipper is sending back the engagement ring of a lost lover? I almost want to cry.
March 31, 2011 at 1:12 am
Thank you for noticing. It speaks of freedom, whether it is wanted or not. And how you must… step forward into life, be it good or bad.
You get it, man, you get it.
March 30, 2011 at 6:34 pm
Fuck shipping. I’m still obsessing about octopi
http://www.etsy.com/listing/63267344/gold-octopus-cufflinks-victorian?ref=v1_other_2
it’s an original design guyz!
March 30, 2011 at 6:40 pm
Exclusive…Possibly steampunk.
March 31, 2011 at 3:41 am
Glued by hand exclusively for YOU!
March 30, 2011 at 6:42 pm
Ok, confession time. I am typing on a Mac, and it has a snow white decal on it. Please don’t kick me out. It’s just so damn cute! She’s holding the apple people!
March 30, 2011 at 8:30 pm
I’ll admit, I thought it was so cute the first time I saw one on Etsy too. Probably would have gotten one myself if I used a mac
March 31, 2011 at 6:43 am
I have snow white’s revenge too. And now thanks to this treasury I see that there is nerd/hipster snow white! Must have. I also love that omnipresent octopus charm. For me it’s the self indulgent descriptions that piss me off. Don’t call it “unique” if it’s not. Don’t call it “steampunk” if it’s not. Glueing a plastic mum to a brass ring base might not be the pinnacle of arts and crafts but if they’re honest about it I don’t have a problem with “hand assembled” sellers. They need a seperate category for the true artisans. The term “handmade” is just to broad.
March 30, 2011 at 7:07 pm
Show our original, antique, handmade, steampunk Octopus friend some love! http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4d93e1259b916d9141e7980f/octopus-love
March 30, 2011 at 10:44 pm
Oh god, I can’t believe the person that posted in the comments that *she* makes a wonderful octopus necklace, too! Missing the point much?
March 30, 2011 at 8:33 pm
This Treasury list has been removed
Awwboo.
The curator of this list has removed it.
Shenanigans?
March 30, 2011 at 8:50 pm
Not shenanigans, it’s Etsy’s canned reason for why the treasury disappeared. You don’t think they would tell the truth, do you? Egads!
March 30, 2011 at 9:09 pm
They don’t have time to tell the truth – too much tea drinking.
March 31, 2011 at 8:59 am
Truth? You can’t handle the truth!
March 30, 2011 at 8:44 pm
wow quite the trend has been started with the treasuries!
March 30, 2011 at 9:48 pm
I couldn’t help it! And now I can’t stop!
March 30, 2011 at 8:52 pm
And it’s gone. Amazing how they can remove these treasuries so quickly but the peeps who are truly breaking the rules (and a few laws) get to keep on ripping people off.
March 30, 2011 at 9:01 pm
The newest update also has another treasury I think you’ll all love
http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4d93f6cfae2f6d91909a311e/typewriter-key-lovefest?ref=pr_treasury
March 30, 2011 at 10:01 pm
I just clicked the shit out of that one! Nice work.
March 31, 2011 at 2:54 pm
Breaking my long run of lurking to say that this is the greatest treasury I’ve seen on Etsy. It’s pratically steampunk in its forward thinking! My goal for the day is to make THIS the most popular treasury, singlehandedly if necessary.
March 30, 2011 at 9:04 pm
When did ebay start doing treasuries?
March 30, 2011 at 9:19 pm
The true definition of a clusterfuck.
March 30, 2011 at 9:50 pm
I started a topic on the *gasp* public forums, asking if I could set up a separate listing for upgraded shipping. The answer was no, but I don’t understand why I’m not special like the bazillion other sellers who do it? I’m going to go cry in the corner now.
March 31, 2011 at 2:38 am
Because it wasn’t their idea.
March 30, 2011 at 9:52 pm
Can’t forget the Snow White variations like this one
March 30, 2011 at 9:52 pm
Oh
noesno, it didn’t show up!Snow White Nerd
March 30, 2011 at 10:54 pm
Haha seems my language fuckery didn’t please you :p
March 30, 2011 at 10:07 pm
Now there needs to be a treasury like this, but with one mustache-on-barn-wood in the middle, you know, so it can get on the front page!
http://www.etsy.com/listing/68066389/reversible-tom-selleck-mustache-necklace?ref=v1_other_1
March 30, 2011 at 11:30 pm
But it’s fucking reversible!
March 31, 2011 at 3:44 am
That is unbelievably awesome.
March 30, 2011 at 10:39 pm
We need a “snow white revenge” treasury, too. I’m getting a little sick of seeing her around everywhere.
http://www.etsy.com/listing/70881728/snowwhite-revenge-3m-decal-for-mac-book?ref=sr_list_37&ga_search_query=mac&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade
March 30, 2011 at 10:52 pm
as long as it is the right muted barwood/ grey/ creamy colour scheme they dont care whats on the front page
The other thing that is starting to piss me off and i would liek to draw your attention to it HK is the HUGE number of Featured Sellers that are from Portland Oregon. Its like one every week, and there are 3 featured sellers a week.
Its like they can’t look past that place. My god there is a whole world of equal or better artists all over the world that are on etsy and they dont stand a chance because they dont have the right address.
seriously its fucked up. I am not knocking Portland, its just it is so repetitive and VERY unfair
March 31, 2011 at 7:25 am
I wouldn’t be surprised if Etsy weren’t planning to open a branch office in Portland. Love the place, went to school there – but now it’s hipster central.
March 31, 2011 at 12:24 pm
It’s because people in Portland are better at putting birds on (sh)it.
March 30, 2011 at 10:57 pm
So I wasn’t completely familiar with Etsy stuff and didn’t know for a while what Treasuries did or what they really were, but after tonight, I decided to make my own. Whimsicle FTW!
March 30, 2011 at 10:59 pm
I especially like the fact that the Priority Treasury is at the top of the list of Treasuries… sweet irony!
March 30, 2011 at 11:07 pm
Baaaaaaaaaahaha, check out Iseevintage’s comment on her inclusion in the owl treasury –
”
“Look at all of us with our retro owls. Fun!
Thanks for the inclusion!
Just wondering where exactly she sees vintage…
March 30, 2011 at 11:38 pm
I don’t know… I think she gets it.

I am amazed at how fast they can remove things that make fun of their shit policies, but can’t apparently find a reseller in time
to save their own mustaches.

This character was originally an anti-anorexia logo, which I cannot for the life of me find anywhere on the internet. Dammit. I suppose it’s IRONIC, though.

I bought that same owl on a necklace at Forever 21 and paid five bucks for it.
In other news, I am laughing forever at the shipping options fiesta. This was a good thing on which to end my night.
March 31, 2011 at 2:24 am
This is mine, but of course not the first of many steampunk octopus treasuries:

Arrrgh! The love birds! I’m seriously beyond angry now. One original Etsy seller gets ripped off by all these copyright infringing assholes. That was an original design by Joanna Rutter! She’s incidentally the first Etsy seller that I bought from (in 2008!). I love her work (check out her blog http://joanna-rutter.blogspot.com/).
Compare:
In 2009 Joanna Rutter won the Etsy spring competition with these birds.
http://www.etsy.com/storque/spotlight/spring-is-here-equinox-voter-results-3659/
And now the shitty copies (spot the subtle differences) pop up everythere and are even featured on the front page! http://www.etsy.com/listing/60063058/love-birds-pendant-necklace-in-silver
March 31, 2011 at 3:40 pm
absolutely, they are crap copies. the branch is all bent and dents, and the bird’s shape is not as clear and defined.
March 31, 2011 at 4:06 am
Easily one of the best posts ever… ok a bit too-referential but still one of the best ones…
March 31, 2011 at 4:45 am
this is an award from last year or something. someone claimed it was “the original” bird-on-branch necklace.
http://www.etsy.com/storque/spotlight/spring-is-here-equinox-voter-results-3659/
i made the lovebirds treasury. go on, go click it. make it popular.
March 31, 2011 at 4:48 am
actually, that pendanty-thingy actually looks way better made than the rest. perhaps the basis of the trend?
March 31, 2011 at 5:40 am
I claimed that (see also comment #97 in this thread). And I truly believe that the first bird necklace is hand-made. I guess it was copied after being featured in the spring awards.
March 31, 2011 at 3:41 pm
we must have commented at the same time

I woke up this morning wishing Anonymous would hack Etsy’s site tomorrow and change the tag line:
Etsy: Your place to buy and sell shit hand-glued to other shit, shit that’s ten years old but pretends to be older, and shit to glue to shit.
March 31, 2011 at 6:42 am
Where are all these happy generic icons coming from? This is outrageous! Bring back the ire or I shall FLOUNCE!
(Actually, I’m too lazy to flounce. I’d just roll over with my back to the screen for an hour.)
March 31, 2011 at 6:51 am
I was all cantankerous this morning because, well, it was morning and screw that noise.
And then I see this. Hells. Yeah.
March 31, 2011 at 7:06 am
Anyone with time want to put up a plastic Chrysanthemum one?
March 31, 2011 at 7:21 am
has anyone else seen the snow white laptop sticker where she’s wearing a sweet pair of shades?? its out there. too odd to make up
March 31, 2011 at 9:23 am
Yeah a few of us did. Etsy is so damn unique. The only place you can find Snow White being ironic.
March 31, 2011 at 8:19 am
I decided to add another one of these lovely things up

email from etsy:
Thank you for being valuable member of Etsy. I’m happy to see you are enjoying our Treasury feature, but I wanted to remind you of the community rules for using Treasury. The DOs & DON’Ts of Etsy include some policies for Treasury, including this rule:
“You may not use a Treasury list or comments to reference a specific member, shop or item in a negative way.”
We have determined that your Treasury list noted below is in violation of the rules. Therefore, we have removed the list. Please do not create Treasury lists of this nature in the future.
March 31, 2011 at 9:20 am
DAMN! Oh so it’s okay to have 1000 of the same thing fooling customers into believing that they are getting a unique item, but not okay to tell people the truth!
March 31, 2011 at 9:22 am
Here’s mine again. Quick look before they remove! http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4d941eb623a78eef7c5eab0e/lolita-skeleton-diva?ref=pr_treasury
March 31, 2011 at 9:45 am
To be fair, most of them are at least a little different? I guess we can’t expect people to make everything from scratch.
March 31, 2011 at 9:46 am
Although how much they price it up is a factor too!
March 31, 2011 at 9:27 am
http://www.etsy.com/teams/7714/ideas/discuss/6838276/
Darn…
March 31, 2011 at 10:41 am
Actually, they’re lying when they say that Treasuries aren’t a good way to bring something to their attention, and when they say that flagging is.
March 31, 2011 at 11:12 am
Also it seems that they think the treasury was posted to draw attention to the rules violation, which is not the case! I love the “we’ve contacted all involved to maintain the integrity of our marketplace” line. So you contacted yourselves about having a shipping option as a front page pick then? Ok. Glad you’re on top of things Etsy!
March 31, 2011 at 11:25 am
FLAGGING DOESN’T FUCKING WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY DO THEY KEEP TELLING US TO FLAG SHIT WHEN IT GARNERS NO RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love the featured artists on that
March 31, 2011 at 9:43 am
Hah, these treasuries are amusing me greatly. It’s almost enough to make me sign up to Etsy and start making them myself… I do have revision to avoid doing!
March 31, 2011 at 10:31 am
I love you people.
March 31, 2011 at 11:27 am
I like your name.
However, I find it incredibly sad that I have come across people whose actual last names are “Cooter”, “Gooch”, and “Tant”.
Unfortunately, their first names were NOT “Sparkle”, “Unicorn”, or “Pudwhacker”. If they were, then it would be ok.

This crap isn’t even hand-assembled! Makes me sick.

I couldn’t help myself either.

March 31, 2011 at 3:47 pm
did you get contacted by “silverlotusdesigns?” i see you featured them. i featured them in my love birds one, and they wrote me this lovely diatribe about how people ask for the design and it is a good seller…….bleh
April 1, 2011 at 6:00 am
No, I didn’t get a message from them. But Etsy removed the Treasury, basically saying you’re not allowed to make fun of sellers in them.
April 1, 2011 at 7:58 am
She asked me to remove her ‘handmade’ watch from my treasury. She put a lot of heart and soul into swapping to a different (yet the same) chain and I should feel ashamed of myself.
March 31, 2011 at 12:49 pm
That was fun, my friends. Here’s another.
http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4d94ca8e37918eef6e7a48bc/screwed
March 31, 2011 at 3:04 pm
I’m somewhat boggled that someone was worried enough about copyright violation to watermark a picture of screweyes.
March 31, 2011 at 7:18 pm
that’s my favorite one!
March 31, 2011 at 12:52 pm
I reported half those snow white decals last night and they’re all still up.
As for the owls and the lovebirds, you know what? I don’t have any problem with “hand-assembled” stuff. There. I said it. I’d still rather pay a little bit more for a chrysanthemum ring from some chick in Iowa who’s going to use my money to buy toothpaste than buy all the parts in bulk, pay shipping, and glue it together myself. Besides, more effort doesn’t equal more originality.
I don’t quite get the disgust for stringing mass-produced owls on chains? Okay, it’s kind of funny when you put them all together, but none of these sellers are claiming they cast their owls from original molds and did the enameling themselves, are they? Not everything can be totally original all the time, when crafters all buy from similar sources.
March 31, 2011 at 3:49 pm
i agree partially with you. stuff glued to stuff, though, is closer to handmade than stuff bought in bulk then sold as “handmade” like in the lovebirds thing. they come with the chain on it already.
March 31, 2011 at 5:06 pm
Do they?? It looked like some of them had different chains. Gross.
March 31, 2011 at 12:53 pm
I joined just to comment on these shenanigans. HILARIOUS.
