Nature Abhors a Vacuum
High resolution? This is my lucky day! Put me down for a poster, because I really need to know if that’s a pack of silica gel back there, or a butter pat stuck to the baseboard. By the way, I’m also interested in an 8 x 10 of a filthy toilet, so keep me on your mailing list!
UPDATE: Eagle-eyed readers have determined that it is, in fact, a Hall’s wrapper on the floor behind the cat.

No word on what’s next to the wrapper however, which is either a trilobite or a wayward shrimp.

January 11, 2011 at 2:08 pm
Zoom in proves it to be a Halls wrapper. I just saved you $12
Maybe if she vacuumed every once in a while, she wouldn’t be so congested. – HK
May 19, 2011 at 4:12 pm
This cat looks to have a serious respiratory ailment. Vacuuming might help!
June 17, 2011 at 3:27 pm
Wow.
Some people really don’t have a lot to do in life do they? Time for me to go vacuum…
Cat pet supplies
January 11, 2011 at 2:09 pm
How much for the cat?
January 11, 2011 at 2:10 pm
But on top of the Halls wrapper, is that a live prehistoric trilobite?
January 11, 2011 at 2:11 pm
They couldn’t photoshop in a green meadow or something? Are those dead bugs or dirt?
January 11, 2011 at 2:12 pm
wait, that’s indoors? i thought it was in front of the door to a public restroom. my bad.
January 11, 2011 at 2:12 pm
Nature may abhor a vacuum, but I know for a fact that kittens love dirty floors. At least the photo didn’t include a hairball, or the litter box.
January 11, 2011 at 2:12 pm
8×10 or 8×12 available. You mean I may be looking at the Pan and Scan and not the Widescreen version of this photo? I demand more filth!
January 11, 2011 at 2:16 pm
You think the floor’s bad?
That’s actually a hairless cat!
January 11, 2011 at 2:16 pm
Is this the lovechild of the Regretsy cat?
January 11, 2011 at 2:17 pm
Honestly, what is up with people trying to sell random pics of their pets on Etsy? this is just one of many and it’s starting to scare me… some people actually buy these things!!! EEEP!

You know how smell can trigger memories? Well, I can smell this and now I’m back in my great-grandmother’s revolting cat ridden flat in Australia in the early ’80′s.
That’s one powerful jpeg!
January 11, 2011 at 2:26 pm
What is wrong with people? Might as well put the cat on laundry mountain to pose or shove her in the mildew shower.
January 11, 2011 at 2:28 pm
Admittedly, my house isn’t any cleaner (actually it’s worse) than this. I mean, I have my priorities. Regretsy. Pizza. Dexter. But I don’t go around posting pictures of it for all to see – let alone try to sell those pictures.
January 11, 2011 at 2:30 pm
You can almost hear the dust bunnies’ drums beating. Totally worth the price.
January 11, 2011 at 2:32 pm
Damnit, cat, do your job and eat the bugs or we’ll sell YOU next.
January 11, 2011 at 2:36 pm
Poor thing looks like he’s got red mange starting in on his nose too. Not deadly in and of itself–just makes the cat’s skin red and splotchy and his fur falls out–but it’s usually a symptom of a bigger auto-immune problem. Kitty’s not sleepy, he’s sick! Maybe the seller’s trying to raise the money for vet care? I’m going to choose to believe that, because otherwise there are bigger problems here than dirty floors and marginal photography…
January 11, 2011 at 2:37 pm
At least the seller is open minded.

The worst part is, this person has actually SOLD things. I’ve had pictures for sale in my shop for months and haven’t sold a damn thing. I guess I’m doing it wrong.

The creature on the background is in fact a SLEEPY ORANGE TABBY STRIPY THINGY. Halls and dirt are a bait for this creature. The cat just got in uninvited and spoiled the shot, but hey – if it didn’t work out as planned – why not sell it on Etsy?
January 11, 2011 at 2:48 pm
I don’t think we get Halls in my country. Do they normally involve so many pubes?
January 11, 2011 at 2:48 pm
Yes, but how do you feel about nasty carpets, Jmarie?
January 11, 2011 at 2:49 pm
Oooh, but the filthy sheet one way win.

January 11, 2011 at 2:55 pm
That cat is looking a little worse for the wear too. Is that mange on its nose? Someone needs to call the Animal Cops AND Hoarders on this seller.
January 11, 2011 at 3:04 pm
Oh but I especially love THIS gem: http://www.etsy.com/listing/59183619/vintage-look-time-warp-renaissance
Who knew they had hoodies, board shorts and Tevas during the Renaissance (let alone cameras)? God damnit, I’m an amateur photographer and even I know you gotta clear the shot before you take it!
August 5, 2011 at 11:20 am
Yes, even people who play SCA on weekends need money too. it’s for fabric. Or was this taken at a medieval faire? not sure.
January 11, 2011 at 3:05 pm
Is this some kind of down and dirty kitty porn? Cuz I think we’re one leg raise away from the money shot.

January 11, 2011 at 3:27 pm
Ear mites, too.
January 11, 2011 at 3:37 pm
i think this image just gave me either fleas or bed bugs.
you can get them through the internet, right?
January 11, 2011 at 3:40 pm
is that a dead roach?
January 11, 2011 at 3:46 pm
I’m pretty sure the wayward shrimp is a dead house centipede. Mostly hated and feared, they are most often found in residences and places where there are cockroaches, as they are predatory bugs.
Here’s a photo: http://androidathlete.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/house-centipede.jpg
January 11, 2011 at 4:16 pm
I really wasn’t in the market for a mangy, starving kitten posing in filth picture, but since it IS numbered and signed on the back I feel comfortable making that $12 investment. I’m trying to make smart investments for my New Years resolution so high five for me! Thanks for the help Regresty!
January 11, 2011 at 4:31 pm
#34:
Alisonburd –
I second your identification of the dead house centipede. Either tired kitty just finished hunting and this is a part of the “artwork,” or tired kitty isn’t doing his job.
January 11, 2011 at 4:49 pm
I see mouse turds on the carpet…or are they coffee grinds?
January 11, 2011 at 5:00 pm
I’m with Kenri. That’s a roach – a dead one – flipped halfway over onto his back, so his feet are sticking up. The fact that he’s ginormous is what’s throwing everyone off the scent (so to speak). Most people see a roach that size (dead or alive, because he had to be alive at SOME point, right?), freak out, clean up, and bleach every flat surface they can reach. I guess this “artist” had… other plans… or something.
January 11, 2011 at 5:11 pm
Oy vey! I didn’t look at the closeup when I first saw the post, and dammit, I just finished eating dinner.
Those dead(?) roaches or whatevers look like the movie roaches that are usually cast as flesh-eating swarms of bugs.

My old dog got sick once from drinking clorine in the pool water…..
just saying. Pool covers.
January 11, 2011 at 5:48 pm
Wait…there’s a market for half assed pictures of my cat? Why the fuck am I spending all my time making baby blankets? I haven’t sold anything in my shop, eathier. Now I know I can just not clean the house and take pictures of the cat to make money.
I wonder if pictures of my kid wallowing in filth would sell, too.
January 11, 2011 at 5:50 pm
Where is PETA when you need them?
If the seller spent half the time with the vaccum that they do posting their pictures on Etsy they might have a clean house.
January 11, 2011 at 6:10 pm
Why is the Pollyanna side of me hoping that’s a nasal hair-laden booger on the Hall’s wrapper, as opposed to the alternatives already suggested?
January 11, 2011 at 6:10 pm
Great find, Helen! This will be much cheaper than confrontation therapy for my obsessive need to inspect every pixel before posting on facebook.
January 11, 2011 at 6:16 pm
I will not suggest what is in the corner. I will insist, however, that when the cat eats it, I get to wear whatever he coughs up as a sweater pin.
Seller, Convo me!
January 11, 2011 at 6:56 pm
i just love how they call it a kitty feline THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME THING DARN IT use one or the other
January 11, 2011 at 7:04 pm
I can’t tell if that’s earmites or wax but the kitten’s nose looks purple and bruised–the owner should be spayed or neutered if that’s their idea of showing off awesome pet care.
January 11, 2011 at 7:12 pm
Eww! Poor cat even looks dirty. Looks like a dead house centipede.
I think someone mentioned that they live with cockroaches but would like to just add they actually prevent cockroaches from coming into a home.
January 11, 2011 at 8:50 pm
I’m not sure where everyone is seeing a centipede, because the only ones I’ve seen are dark brown. The awful apartment I lived in for 6 months when I was broke had lots of them. Made me scream every time. *shudder*
That poor kitty. I wish I could take him/her home, get him to the vet, and spoil him with lots of treats and toys.
January 11, 2011 at 9:56 pm
YES! – HK
January 11, 2011 at 10:44 pm
Perhaps the seller’s goal is to help others feel better about their own homes and pets. By hanging these photos in the home, suddenly your minor dust bunnies and wrinkled linens are no longer the focus of the room! Ta-daaaa!

So do they guarantee that their “archive quality” paper comes pre-splattered by their Fry Daddy? Because there’s no point without the stains, you can’t call it “art” without the grit of life.
January 12, 2011 at 2:08 am
At first I thought she must be doing some deliberately crap taking-the-piss thing. The weird thing is, the lady knows how to use a camera. There are nicely composed and well shot photos in her gallery. She just needs to edit her selection. It seeems that she has a kitty blind spot (a cat-aract?) If the picture’s got a cat in it, never mind the the dead mutant insects, filth and detritus, look at da kyooot kitty!
January 12, 2011 at 4:10 am
@ #25: some part of that kitty feline is winking at me. :>D
January 12, 2011 at 4:12 am
@ #25: in that pic you have the link for? Definitely winking.
January 12, 2011 at 6:01 am
@cecikierk-too bad we can’t have 2 comments of the day in one post!
January 12, 2011 at 7:41 am
Awww… I just want to bring that kitty into my home, get him some medical attention and feed him until his hip bones stop sticking out. Why do people have pets when they won’t take care of them???
Sadly I already have three rescued cats of my own and can’t afford to take in another one.
January 12, 2011 at 7:50 am
My cat is cuter, my house is cleaner and I own a camera.
Maybe I should quit my day job.
January 12, 2011 at 9:25 am
Sweet, so all I need to do is use my ZooPass, take a ton of pictures there, and upload them to etsy. Then take some pictures of my own cats and upload them. Then add some sad-looking handwriting to my pictures http://www.etsy.com/listing/64460901/vintage-style-red-love-rose-floral-art Career-found!
January 12, 2011 at 9:40 am
that poor cat needs help
January 12, 2011 at 9:56 am
I can see that kittens Hip bones…Maybe this person will take some money and feed that cat!!! Nice touch will the Hall’s wrapper and the cockroach exoskeletons all around the floor boards.
January 12, 2011 at 10:04 am
Okay… is anyone else a bit creeped out by “liking” posts about neglected pets? I’m thinking in this case it’s less “like” and more “I agree”.
January 12, 2011 at 10:39 am
That’s not a bug – it’s a monster hairball – human hair. There’s a nice ring-around-the-room of human hair.
Plus side? I am reminded to clean out the shower drain….
January 12, 2011 at 11:05 am
Entomophobia – noun – the inability to get this awful picture out of my head.
Thanks for that close up!
January 12, 2011 at 12:53 pm
I should have mentioned that this is our second featured listing from Animal Hoarders.
January 12, 2011 at 1:02 pm
ok really, I’m barfing. And the filthy sheets in some of the other shots (lavender already noted above)… It’s cruelty to animals! Blech.

If I lived closer to Florida, I’d offer to buy the kitten from her instead of the print. We’ve already got three spoiled kitties, but that poor baby’s haunting me.

I just kinda feel bad for the cat. :/

#50 Lumptious: Thank you, I was waiting for someone to do that!
January 13, 2011 at 6:00 am
@ #54
What else is weird, the quality small shots are a helluvalot less expensive than the nasty 8×10′s. Who wouldn’t rather buy four good looking little pictures than one big hot mess. Maybe that’s this seller’s “angle”… ?
January 13, 2011 at 11:17 am
This picture is one big mess. I mean, I vacuum my house a LOT because I have 3 cats. This etsy seller doesn’t seem to have recognized a need for that. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm….

Does the cat get residuals on this? Can cats sue? I hope he claws her eyes out in her sleep then sh*ts in the sockets.

I have been laughing so hard I have tears and my 5 yr old thinks I have lost it! This should be titled hallswrapper hairball. Thanks regretsy!
August 5, 2011 at 11:26 am
actually, I don’t find this funny, and unless the money sold from this picture is being used to help the cat in the picture, it’s animal abuse/neglect. Poor kitty.
