$1200
Housing Works auction was a big success. We raised over $1200 for them, and it was a wonderfully fun event.
And as an added bonus, Nightline was there! They are also following me to ROFL Con in Boston, and then will continue to Raven’s house to show her at work in her studio.
It was an incredible night, and a great opportunity for a lot of people. There was so much press there!
Thanks to all of the wonderfully talented artists who donated their work. It was one of the most satisfying things I have ever been involved with.
I only have a few pix, but I’ll post more when I get them.
Leaving for Boston in a few hours. See you there!
April 28, 2010 at 9:01 pm
How fun! Do you know when Nightline is going to air it?
April 28, 2010 at 9:02 pm
And that’s so awesome that you raised over $1200!
April 28, 2010 at 9:03 pm
FIRST!
It was great to meet you. The Whimsicle pillow is now prominently displayed on the Pincus family sofa!
April 28, 2010 at 9:03 pm
Aw shit…. okay….THIRD!
April 28, 2010 at 9:03 pm
Way to go East Coast people! That is really awesome
April 28, 2010 at 9:04 pm
I don’t know when yet – they have to do the ROFL Con segments in Boston. But I’ll ask when I see them there.
April 28, 2010 at 9:05 pm
OH SWEET WHIMSICLE FUCKING JOY-that is TOO COOL!
Gee, you broads look so damn hawt for a couple of drunk wierdos!
April 28, 2010 at 9:06 pm
#3 joshpincusiscrying: Sorry, and I hogged up the first two places at that. I’ve been first several times in the past two days. I’m not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed.
April 28, 2010 at 9:10 pm
$1200 kicks ass. I wish I could have been there. Work is keeping me from making it to the Boston thing too. It’s a conspiracy…
But I’m so glad that you raised so much money.
April 28, 2010 at 9:14 pm
Please tell me the doll sold
You guys look amazing and I am soooo totally jealous that I am just a poor artist who could not afford the plane ticket to be there . LOL
$1200 is fantastic!
April 28, 2010 at 9:14 pm
Woo! That’s great!! Were there a lot of people there? Did people gasp at some of the cooler items?!(cool in my book means “scary as shit” to most others.)
April 28, 2010 at 9:21 pm
If anything didn’t get bought, is there a possibility of them putting it online so people who couldn’t make it to NY can bid and proceeds still go to them?
April 28, 2010 at 9:21 pm
#10 creepydolls – dont feel too bad about being a poor starving artist, I am about 35 minutes from there and STILL cant afford it. Shit balls.
Congrats on the $1200 raised, you guys are “SMOKIN” in that last picture!
April 28, 2010 at 9:22 pm
Also, AWESOMELY awesome.
April 28, 2010 at 9:24 pm
#10 creepydolls: you and your mate are perfect artistic partners. (recently friended him on fb. and totally impressed with the both of you)
April 28, 2010 at 9:26 pm
#10 not only did the doll sell, it was the only item where a commission bid came in ahead of time. From Hong Kong!
April 28, 2010 at 9:29 pm
Creepy: Yes, everything sold.
Kit: From what I could tell, the thing that people thought was the most horrifying, or that got the most gasps, was when Helen pulled the tampon out of the plushie vagina. I thought that was hilarious. It was a really good turn out.
I was happy that someone bid on my picture and it was great to meet Raz. I took a bunch of photos and will take a look at them tonight or tomorrow, and post a link to the set.
It was nice to meet you, April and Mick!
April 28, 2010 at 9:29 pm
YAY creepydolls, that is an awesomesauce compliment!
April 28, 2010 at 9:30 pm
Everything sold, it was awesome. Also people bought drinks and tea and books, so all of that money went into the $1200 that they made I’m sure.
Housing Works is a great organization, it’s so cool April got Regretsy involved. When I’m donating old stuff, I always truck it into the city from Brooklyn to either of the Housing Works stores. They really offer great services and do great advocacy here in NYC.
April 28, 2010 at 9:30 pm
#13 Stella- It just makes us stronger. hahahahaha
#15- Thank you
I am rather fond of him myself.
April 28, 2010 at 9:31 pm
#16 greenfuzz – Does that mean people could have called in? damn, i wish I had known that. I thought you had to be there in person. But SWEET! I have lots of overseas buyers, many in Hong Kong and Japan
April 28, 2010 at 9:34 pm
So awesomesaucetastic and whimbsicle!
April 28, 2010 at 9:38 pm
@creepydolls. I don’t think they were really taking phone bids as a rule, but someone who volunteers for Housing Works clearly had taken the call with the bid and it seemed like it was not right then, but well before the auction. At any rate, the buyer was someone in the room because it sold for more than the HK buyer had bid.
April 28, 2010 at 9:40 pm
#20 Creepydolls- Bwa ha ha, yeah while I count change to put gas in my car I sing Christina Aguilera to help remind me. Following dreams bullshit!!
April 28, 2010 at 9:44 pm
<— So envious of the people who got to go.
April 28, 2010 at 10:07 pm
That’s great! Aren’t you guys cute?
April 28, 2010 at 10:10 pm
#24- When I recycle cans for gas money, I always think about E true hollywood Stories of Bios on the Biography channel- Some people start off at the very bottom which motivates them to do bigger, greater things!
*wink*
April 28, 2010 at 10:14 pm
Nightline?
She should be on “To Catch A Predator” because some juvenile artist is always being violated.
For a good cause.
April 28, 2010 at 10:19 pm
Ooooh la la …. wish I coulda been there for all the fun …. but I think I got a glimpse of my little paramecium peeking out of that box and that’s good enough for me.
A great event for a good cause. Hey Killer has a heart and for you guys who’ve read the book … it’s right there on those pages as well.
Hey what … Jolly good show!!!!
April 28, 2010 at 10:34 pm

April 28, 2010 at 11:09 pm

April 29, 2010 at 12:38 am
I don’t remember, CrossedPromise. I think most things went for somewhere between 50-100 dollars.
April 29, 2010 at 12:57 am

Really love the Johhny Cash look you have here. What with raising 4 digits bucks of the cause, I think it fits. GOOD LUCK in Beantown!
April 29, 2010 at 5:36 am
Go, Pincus family sofa!
Great photos, Frankenkitty! Looks like it was so much fun. I wish I could have been there. Especially since reading about the tampon thing. Too funny!
April 29, 2010 at 6:25 am

April 29, 2010 at 9:03 am

April 29, 2010 at 9:06 am

Helen is the Ambassador of Snarkitivity.
She is showing the world that snarkastic people have feelings and compassion too!
The rebel generosity that made Robin Hood a hero is alive and well. A shining example for us all.
April 29, 2010 at 10:03 am
I’m totally bummed that I couldn’t be there. Come back to town soon!
April 29, 2010 at 10:16 am
Another event I hate to have missed because I live way too far away!! It looks like so much fun, I love your pictures with the items, Helen! <3
April 29, 2010 at 10:28 am
The $1200 put our Glendale bash to shame but New York had a lot more fuckery. But Glendale will always be the home of the giant penis!!
April 29, 2010 at 10:29 am
What a Bucket-O-Fun!!!!!
April 29, 2010 at 10:51 am
Wow, I just read the guest list for ROFLcon! It’s like nerd heaven, where one gets to see all of one’s virtual friends, even the ones you forgot (I mean-Joel Furr and Gene Spafford?) But I’m sure HK is too gracious to make anyone uncomfortable with their relative geek-hood. (Nice save, eh?)
What’s up with the comments about sudabaki? I cleared cache and cookies, but I see no change. Is this a FB thing that should be shared with the class?
April 29, 2010 at 11:24 am
Great photos , thank you !Almost like being there w/o the alchohol fumes.
I had no idea that the vagouterus is so huge…
It’s nice to get some perspective.
One of the cutest things I think I’ve ever seen-the woman in the hummingbird helmet!
