YOUR AUCTION PREVIEW: 4/24

On April 28th, Housing Works Bookstore in NYC is hosting a Regretsy book signing and live auction . Housing Works is a nonprofit bookstore and cafe, where all proceeds benefit homeless people living with HIV/AIDS.

I’ve been collecting your donated arts and crafts, and have put together 10 lots to auction off. I’ll be featuring one per day until April 28th. All proceeds will go directly to Housing Works.

If you see something here you want, come down to Housing Works and place a bid during the auction. The event starts at 7:00 PM, and all the details can be found here.

THE WORLD FAMOUS DOUBLE
HUMMINGBIRD FEEDER HAT

By Roy Road Fish Company

ARTIST’S STATEMENT: Imagine having two beautiful little hummingbirds feeding just to the right and left of you – so close you can feel the breeze generated by the beating of their wings. You can have this experience with the hummingbird hat! Perfect for the person who loves nature but has everything. We can almost guarantee they don’t have one of these.

CLICK TO SEE THIS HAT IN ACTION

The Double Hummingbird Feeder hat was first featured here in October of last year, and also appears on the cover of the Regretsy book. This particular hat was given to me at the book signing in Glendale, and is signed by the artist.

You could put booze in those and put it on a drunk friend’s head and watch hilarity ensue.

Awww snap! That thing looks pretty dumb, but is a really cool idea… It’d be awesome to partake of the Regretsy pipe, sit out on the deck, and wait for the birdies! I just partook though, so I probably won’t think this thing is as awesome in an hour or two… ; )

Omigod, the real hat? So, so perfect! I am totally envious of whoever ends up with this perfectly perfect piece of whimsicle fuckery!

It’s pretty damn generous of Roy to donate it, too. Especially since it made the cover of the book!

Don’t let anyone even try to convince you the hummingbirds aren’t there, feeding on it right now.

The lucky New York bidder can sit in Central Park wearing this & I’m sure they’ll attract more than birds!

A wonderful friend of mine aged 72 is very much into his bird feeders. Last I spoke to him, he was planning his hummingbird feeders for this year. Do you know how hard it was to not laugh my butt off listening to him with this picture (well, not this one, the original one) in my head?

I told my husband about this contraption back when it was first featured on Regretsy because I knew he’d love the idea (genuinely). I just mentioned it to him again last night, and he still thinks it’s brilliant. He’s a nature freak with an unending amount of patience to wait for birds to get 6 inches from his face, and zero regard for how others view his already long list of eccentricities. You should see us at restaurants… don’t get me started. ;)

This IS a thing of beauty!

Could you do this with sugar to attract butterflies?

No. 1, if you put booze in there, you’d end up surrounded by stumbling, flapping, drunk frat dudes. Is that really the goal?

I actually think it’s kinda…neat. That dude’s totally chillaxing with hummingbirds! Plus, it’s meant to be functional, not (like most of the stuff on etsy) artsy or aesthetically pleasing.

My husband’s talking about getting one and sitting out on the balcony at night to attract nectar bats. That way he could finally see one up close.

What I love the most is that it’s a helmet – just in case those pesky hummingbirds get careless with their little beaks!

I would totally want this, for several people, if we only had hummingbirds where I live :/

Oooh – Monstrosa – BATS!! That so cool. Birdwatching is fine and all, but could you imagine having bats flapping around your head like that?!?

I love bats – don’t think they’re creepy at all. They’re an adorable combo of field mice and birdies. In mostly chic black.

There’s also Bat World Sanctuary in Texas.
We live a block away from a bat bridge with tens of thousands of bats, mostly Mexican Free Tail. But the nectar bats are the ones that pollinate agave and they empty hummingbird feeders at night.

my friend’s bday is today, he’s an avid biker. does this double as a functioning bike helmet? though the birds constantly flying in your face would be rather distracting…

the best thing about regretsy is that someone (or lots of someones) will always say, “I NEED THAT, I LOVE IT”. proving that this site is never about mocking, but finding that perfect handmade treasure!!
