YOUR AUCTION PREVIEW: 4/23

On April 28th, Housing Works Bookstore in NYC is hosting a Regretsy book signing and live auction . Housing Works is a nonprofit bookstore and cafe, where all proceeds benefit homeless people living with HIV/AIDS.

I’ve been collecting your donated arts and crafts, and have put together 10 lots to auction off. I’ll be featuring one per day until April 28th. All proceeds will go directly to Housing Works.

If you see something here you want, come down to Housing Works and place a bid during the auction. The event starts at 7:00 PM, and all the details can be found here.

FROM THE REGRETSY BOOK:
WEDDING ATTIRE PAINTING

By Introverted Painting

ARTIST’S STATEMENT: “After my own wedding, I realized that the most expensive piece of clothing I have ever owned was sitting in the closet. I decided to create a painting of it. Now I create custom paintings for others. If you would like your wedding attire (or other favorite outfit) turned into a painting, send me a photo. In about a week I shall create a gorgeous painting for you. The background is completely customizable. I welcome all attire from the traditional to the indie or goth. I can also include any set pieces you’d like in the background such as a beloved pet or theme of the wedding. I’ve done cats, dogs, and mountain so far.”

This is the exact painting that is pictured on page 98 of the Regretsy book, making it even less valuable than if you’d found it in the street.

That’s Mine! I was so excited to get to be in the book and then have the chance to send the painting off for a good cause I created a Certificate of Regreticity to go with it.

You can see it in all its whimsicle glory here http://intbride.blogspot.com/2010/03/auction-take-two.html

I hope it goes over well for Housing Works.

Not only an awesome painting & contribution, but the dog has a body!So what if the happy couple is headless, it’s probably all for the better and if we all were wed in that state , I’m sure the divorce rate would go down.

    I love “Certificate of Regreticity”!!

You know what would be an awesome!! project? If a few photographers got together with regretsy artists to interpret their famous pieces, but in a different form. Like, this piece in photograph form. It’d be so creepy to have a reception of bodiless dresses and suits.

OK, I saw the dog and all I could think of was this:
“Well, Laddie, I don’t know where you’ve been, but I see you won first prize!”

Certificate of Regreticity is a stroke of brilliance.

@ #8 Ah yes the body parts soaps. My husband and I got into that because when you go to buy a liver, heart or intestines shaped soap you just don’t get the same measure of quality and love from Costco.

Well, personally I think this is just conceptually loaded imagery. You know, loss of self in marriage. Reminds me of the ball and chain discussion I was having with my husband the other day….

And, this strikes me as sweet, I don’t know why: I’ve done cats, dogs, and mountain so far.”

This is lovely, but it panics me to see the dog, as my own aged German Sherpard has become slightly incontinent, and it makes me think of wee tinkles on the dress.

The picture is the example I made for a customer that I use in my listing. I made a painting specifically for the book so I didn’t step on any toes. I promise I mailed to them the actual painting in the book. No, stop! Put down the white hot nails!

#1 blablover5 Good deed. I like the social commentary on the wedding scenario.

Too often by the time the “big day” comes both bride and groom are so numb, that the dog is the only one in the family that gets any real “unconditional love.”
