BRING ON THE DEATH BLANKETS!
Well, I hope you’re happy.
Thanks to you and your Zazzle purchases, we have finally funded our Project Linus blanket drive! Which means that today, I’ll be hiring an Etsy seller to hand make blankets for seriously ill and traumatized children.
So thank you all very much for your support and kindness. I’m really happy about this project, which is our fourth since starting the Alchemy Fund.
That sets our counter back down to zero, which means we’re starting to raise funds for our next charitable effort. To that end, we have added three lovely new products in our Zazzle shop.
New T-Shirt
New mousepad
New mug
I don’t have the energy to explain what the hell this means, but if you frequent the Facebook group, you already know. And if you don’t, well, what’s your problem? Do you know how much fun we have over there?
Well, not very much really. But occasionally some dipshit will come in and tell us that blankets kill babies, or demand that we unsubscribe them because they think that’s our job, and we laugh and laugh and laugh.
Good times.

I, for one, am thrilled. Bring on the knitted and quilted shrouds of death!
January 27, 2010 at 9:45 am
What’s the alchemy listing under? I’ll totally undersell myself to bring honour to the name of death blankets.

Can’t. Stop. Giggling.
January 27, 2010 at 9:53 am
I hope that kid there is at the top of the list for a blanket, what with the crazy candy clown trauma and all. I may need one too….saying candy and clown together is giving me flashbacks to Blue Velvet….
January 27, 2010 at 9:53 am
OK that picture has me laughing out loud at Starbucks. Luckily they already know me here as “The crazy lady who sits by the window and laughs at her computer”.
January 27, 2010 at 10:10 am
Again thank you for the philanthropy and the laughs. I just made the mistake of catching up on the news. At least you balance the serious with the sublime.
January 27, 2010 at 10:19 am
Yeah! Bring on the death blankets! Snuggly evil fun! As for the death blanket spokestot, How about a caption? ” Shit now I’m afraid of clowns, gumballs and now mommy got me a blankie???? Why does Mommy hate me! ”
Seriously, would love to see the finshed products too great cause!

The blankets of death are coming!! Aaahhhhh!!
Oh, and good job everyone for raising the money to meet the goal of smothering innocent children with snuggly love, LOL!!

I’m curious to know where this logic comes from? What would make this person conclude that blankets cause baby deaths?
People are odd.
January 27, 2010 at 11:15 am
Jea…
the logic of it comes from SIDS research. It is a standard recommendation to not allow blankets/pillows in the crib until the child is one. They now make sleep garments for babies (called blanket sleepers or sleep sacks) in different weight fabrics to keep them from getting too cold at night.
But since Project Linus blankets are usually given to older babies and children, it shouldn’t even be an issue here.

#9 hospitals now say that babies should have NO blankets, pillows, toys, bumper pads, but should be safely zipped into some sleeveless bag thing in an empty crib…next will be helmets and elbow pads…

January 27, 2010 at 1:48 pm
Where’s the crazy AAP lady now? Not only are we giving children death blankets, we’re letting them have entire jars of bubble gum – imagine the comments she’d have about the choking hazard that presents itself here.
January 27, 2010 at 2:05 pm
thank you for sharing that pic three toed sloth. is he/she healthy now?
January 27, 2010 at 4:12 pm
Hey #13 3 toed sloth :
Was he a preemie? I don’t mean to pry … my little girl was born at 25 weeks (and is a beautiful, healthy 2-year-old now). What a sweet little guy he is!
Take care!

#11:
And now with all this “only let babies sleep on their back” talk, lots of babies are getting flat heads and having to wear helmets!! For realz.
Check it out: http://www.flatheadprevention.org/

so nice to hear, 3-toed sloth…what a cute baby!
January 27, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Just to make a point since there’s all this “blankets kill babies mess”, I’ve always gotten a huge laugh out of people who won’t buy anything that’s not flame retardant to make clothing and blankets for children.
Never buy flame retardant clothing for kids. Not only are they drenched in chemicals that have been linked to grow development problems but the treatment just makes the fabric MELT INTO YOUR FLESH. Yeah, no thanks.

Thought I would put a picture of my baby grandson with his Project Linus blanket…he’s now been moved to Children’s Hospital in Detroit….awaiting surgery. He loves his blanket! The first picture is him, taken a few days ago… http://www.flickr.com/photos/bynanashands/?saved=1

@ #31, First of all, get your facts straight. No one attacked her for “just giving advice”. Her “advice” was irrelevant and insulting. These blankets are used in HOSPITALS under supervision. We are raising money and making blankets in accordance with those guidelines. Mrs. Advice won’t make friends by diminishing us, or suggesting we’re doing harm. It’s also a slap in the face of the people who have shared their personal stories with us about the comfort these blankets have given them.

So now we want babies to smother in homemade blankets, and we also don’t care about SIDS. I can see how you made that connection.
Once again, these blankets are for seriously ill and traumatized children, used under supervision in HOSPITALS. Or as your friend called them “mere RNs”.
This was never about SIDS. That is a completely different issue. Dumping a bunch SIDS related links into a thread where people are enthusiastic about doing good for a completely DIFFERENT cause is really not helpful or welcome.
Why don’t you go start a SIDS charity, instead of trying to dissuade people from making wanted donations to a different cause?
