New Regretsy Merchandise
We are now a little over halfway to funding the next Regretsy Alchemy Fund project!
As you may know, the Alchemy Fund here at Regretsy works in $200 increments. When we raise that amount, we hire an Etsy seller to make handmade good for charity. Right now we’re closing in on our goal to benefit Project Linus; a great organization that provides handmade blankets to seriously ill and traumatized children.
We raise money for things like this by selling shitty merchandise on Zazzle, and today is no exception. Our own Bronc Drywall has designed 2 lovely new mousepads and T-shirts for your shopping pleasure.

Now, I know that everyone is focusing on Haiti, and I’ve gotten a lot of email this week asking me to get involved with that. But I just really think that every network in the world pretty much has it covered, not to mention every web site, celebrity and magazine. People with much louder voices are speaking for the victims there, and doing a world of good.
And you know, we’re only about $91 away from giving a job to an Etsy seller, and getting some handmade blankets for kids who really need the comfort. So I’m just going to stay on course with that, because those kids matter to me too, and they don’t have a charity concert planned anytime soon.

Awww, I would love to see pictures of the Project Linus blankets if you have received any!

Every project linus chapter needs help from people who can’t make blankets, too – whether it’s helping sell tickets for the annual raffle, delivering blankets or helping with sorting – there’s a task for everyone, whether you can quilt/knit/crochet or not!

I think it’s great that you’re staying focused on lesser known causes. Thank you tarabu for the information!
January 23, 2010 at 1:53 pm
Awesome that you’re doing this.
January 23, 2010 at 2:05 pm
I don’t understand the point of trolling regretsy just to give people a thumbs down. Really, tarabu get’s a thumbs down for giving information about about helping ill and/or traumatized children?? If regretsy is so awful and hate filled then stay the fuck away! Good lord go spend your time making a difference and make a fucking blanket or something.

#5 In my corner of the world, we artists believe that even negatory reviews are okay. It’s when people stop caring enough to hate you when you know you have a problem.
January 23, 2010 at 2:11 pm
the thumbs-downer trols have been described as either:
1) hate-filled, bitter harridans who havent had a penis inside of them for a year;
or
2) hate-filled, bitter moms-basement-dwellers who havent had their penis inside of anyone in…well, ever.

Helen: Thank you for sticking up for the underdogs.
They do not, indeed, have a benefit concert planned.

#7 What if they have vaginas instead? Are those the saggy ones?
January 23, 2010 at 2:13 pm
Oh! Helen! What about the goopymart.com guy? He put that NSFW shirt up in his cafepress shop. Think he might donate some of the sales?

Here’s the link to it. http://www.cafepress.com/goopymart.87297953

I just noticed my daughter’s favorite blanket is a Project Linus blanky.
It’s so soft and pretty <3
January 23, 2010 at 2:18 pm
With the Lent season rocketing upon us, the “Try not to sin…” apparel pretty much checks off my entire list for that big gift-giving occasion.
January 23, 2010 at 2:22 pm
Project Linus is one of my faves (if you can call a charity that). Back when I gave up on knitting because of my arthritis pain, I donated all my yarn and several unfinished baby blankets to the local chapter.
I’m going to have to get something from the regretsy “pickle” theme.
January 23, 2010 at 2:25 pm
sudabaki- yes, i agree! wtf is wrong with people???
“If regretsy is so awful and hate filled then stay the fuck away! Good lord go spend your time making a difference and make a fucking blanket or something.”
couldn’t have said it better myself, darling!
love the new tees, etc.
and that mailbag email was the most heartwarming thing i’ve read all day…

I wanted to thank you for raising funding for the Linus Project. My 4 month old grandson is currently in a pediatric Intensive care unit in upper Michigan. Zeke was given a beautiful blanket from Project Linus…it meant so much to my son and daughter in law. This is a good thing you’re doing. Thank you again…

I just ordered my “Are you going to eat that Pickle?” t-shirt – I’m not going to be able to sleep until it gets here!
…i’d better call the pharmacy and have my valium refilled pronto!
January 23, 2010 at 4:22 pm
I love the new merchandise – but I am the only that noticed the right wing shit that comes up as well when you click on the Regretsy products? Hmmm looks like a conspiracy
January 23, 2010 at 4:30 pm
@ #18 – No, I noticed that too. But I don’t think I have any control over what they show on those pages. They ought to give you the option to eliminate religious or political products.
January 23, 2010 at 5:00 pm
@ #18 & #19 – I wonder if Zazzle pulls the tags from the items to try to cross sell? i.e. the “Try not to sin…” shirt is tagged ‘bible’
January 23, 2010 at 5:43 pm
OMG! What if the try not to sin shirt hits it big here in the Bible belt (Tenn). I would be so proud…
January 23, 2010 at 5:54 pm
Janncri, Regretsy may just have the next “Vote for Pedro” type cult following in the making!
January 23, 2010 at 6:44 pm
I have to second Suda also.
And I love those t-shirts and pads,
great charity work, Helen!

Apropos of nothing… Every time I see a cat sitting, my thoughts go straight to “level 4″, I’ll see a picture of a bear, or someone will say something (usually, very very stupid) and my first thought is Regresty. And I have to restrain myself from making a snarky comment because whoever I’m with has absolutely no idea what I’m talking about.
Anyhoo… I love this site and I’m buying a “guess what, I found his ear” mug to support Project Linus.
I really, really fucking love this…
January 23, 2010 at 6:53 pm
….site.
I feel so vulnerable. Somebody hold me.
January 23, 2010 at 8:34 pm
never heard of Project Linus before Regretsy made mention. My crochet group and scout troop will be contacting them to work with them, and will be donating yarn as well (been picking up the discontinued baby yarn at work for 10cents a skein). Thanks Helen!
January 23, 2010 at 8:59 pm
also don’t be veign because Jesus is watchin’ ya’ll
January 23, 2010 at 9:11 pm
My wee one was in the hospital at 3 days old being jaundiced. The nurses put a handmade knit cap on her with a heart design, the nurse said it reminded her of my little ones lips
I know how special one of these handmade items can be. Right on Regretsy, right on.

On a serious note… Just wanted to say, that I’m with you Helen! They’ve raised a billion+ for Haiti so far and still aren’t getting help to those people! Money should be going to other charities too and I’m glad you’re sticking to yours! Keep up the good work!
January 24, 2010 at 1:39 pm
@ #24 whaapplewha: I know exactly what you mean. Whimsicle Fuckery has popped out of my mouth on more than one occasion. People just give me the same slightly head tilted look that a pugicorn does when it’s trying to understand what you’re saying.

Yea Katie! hope your daughter comes home soon! My son was born at 33 weeks and had a short stay in NICU, he received a blanket too-it means alot to parents at a time of extreme stress to know people really do care. My son will be 10 on Jan 28th, and he still has his blanket and knows how he got it-from the kindness and love of others, hope he passes it on!
