For reals on that room view, Helen. I can think of a lot of little girls that dress wouldn’t be perfect for, starting with Malia and Sasha.

I don’t view the Stars & Bars as Southern heritage. I see it as it is, a symbol of sedition and treason, and I spit on it and anyone who displays it.

Dynomoose – actually I’ve grown up in the deep south my whole like and it depends on who you talk to. Most whites whose family has roots in the south don’t see it as racist but a symbol of heritage, as you say. However, recently relocated whites and blacks of all eras overwhelmingly see it as racist. When, as a minority, you live where racism is heavily prevalent, it’s impossible not to see the confederate flag as a symbol of slavery and how little the south has progressed in cultural…

I can see this going two ways. Either you see the Confederate flag as a symbol of the stuff in the “show it in a room”, in which case, GAH! Or, as Dynomoose says, you just see it as a historical thing in which case, why the hell are you sewing a flag into clothing? That’s kind of disrespectful.

You wouldn’t do that to our current US flag, would you?

Symbols aren’t what they used to be. The iron cross was used by the nazis and no matter the history, it is seen TODAY as a symbol for white supremacists. The confederate flag didn’t represent racism and slavery at the time, but TODAY is seen that way. Those are facts that have to be accepted and understood. Both symbols have been adopted by the racism movements and therefore linked to racism in modern culture.

My great grandma would have spit on someone wearing a flag. Of course she was Italian, so she probably would have spit on anyone! I guess it just depends on what it means to you.

My main objection to this symbol is that it represents a nostalgic yearning for an event that was the most grievous in our nation’s history. 140 years after the fact, the wound is still fresh. Pols like Rick Perry speak favorably of secession. Separatists are gaining strength. This flag is used to inflame the desire for division. It is a red flag to me, and it breaks my heart.

I live in Florida and the Confederate Flag here is super popular among whites. The blacks get really offended when they see one. I find this flag ugly and racist, and people need to get over what happened in the past.
I knew a girl who wore: Confederate t-shirts, belt-buckles, even hair scrunchies blurted out some really racist crap during my American History class (H.S) discussing Segregation and treatment of blacks, everyone stared at her and gasped.

I CAN believe that this dress sold…after all, what else are children good for other than being little sponges for their parents to pass along their racists beliefs unto? Have you considered that this may have been a Regrestsy gag-gift purchase? Or that someone bought it to burn? Anyone who would actually put their child in this get-up, in this day and age, is either clearly racist or hates their child so much that they are hoping they get beat-up.

And, PS – I have NO qualms about insulting the racism of a racist veteran nor his racist Army wife, so you are welcome.

Aw, you were just honoring veterans? Veterans of a nation of seditious traitors that took up arms against the United States of America? Well, shoot, why didn’t you say so? It’s pretty routine for us to honor our enemies’ veterans a century or so later, right? That’s why all those children in late Victorian era England were running around in some cheap-ass Stars and Stripes pillowcases with dollar store ribbon tied to them! Duh!

I am SO embarrassed that this POS was made by a…

I know I’m commenting on a post over a year old, but calling my entire family “seditious traitors” is something I have to address. My great-great grandfather lost three brothers in the war, and barely survived himself. For the common man in the South (and my family are about as common as you can get–they’re all Cajun), going to war was about protecting your family. The northern “liberators” were pretty barbaric themselves towards the southerners, especially (and here’s the best part) towards minorities. Racism was as prevalent in the North as in the South, and Lincoln himself made snide remarks about Blacks. So don’t be so smug when talking about southerners when your own people were no different.

By your own logic, no one in the United States should be proud of their own “nation of seditious traitors”.

All that aside, the dress does look pretty trashy, though I’m not really a fan of any clothing made from a flag.

Jthomas, the smug “northern liberators” aren’t holding onto offensive emblems that represent their hatred toward the South.

If you can’t get over your connection with the Confederates because your great-great-grandfather’s three brothers died fighting in the Civil War, how do you expect the descendants of American slaves to get over what was done to them?

And Dynomoose, how do all of your black friends feel when you call them “people of color?”

Isn’t it against the law to use your flag for whatever?.. In my country you could go to jail for it. What a fuckin’ Disrespect! (at least if you would mke something nice out of it, but this on is really fuckin’ BAD!)..
