Wow, and they’re using etsy pricing logic too: $25.00 gift card for $22.00!
So, 20¢ to list, 77¢ sales fees… so that’s a profit of 21.03, assuming they didn’t use paypal…
Yup, etsy math!!!!!!
They should put this in a friggin gift guide!
Such is the Craft Ninja
November 7, 2009 at 11:44 am
Note to seller: YOU ARE MAKING ETSY SUCK… not “mature” art, not embellished garbage, and most definitely not whimsy. It’s you, and people like you who list crap from around your house right next to crap that you “make”. GO AWAY.
so this is the future of etsy… it was listed over a month ago and is still up, which doesn’t say a whole lot for how well they’re doing at getting this kind of garbage off the site. this user should be banned.
I understand how people feel about this kind of stuff, but please don’t turn people in or file complaints about what you see here. I really don’t want this to turn into the Etsy police. It would take all the fun out of it for me.
Yep, the seller took it down. Nothing like subverting the point of Etsy by selling mass produced crap. Etsy is about hand made crap. Besides, I don’t think I would ever trust buying a gift card from some random person.
With all due respect Helen Killer, if that is the way you feel, you should probably not post items that are against Etsy’s tou. It’s not reasonable to expect people not to flag items that shouldn’t be on Etsy in the first place. If you don’t want to turn into another ‘calling out’, then you should just stick to posting the kind of stuff you have been prior to this.
It isn’t even down though. She kept the listing and just wrote in the description: “sorry but someone didnt like that i had it on here. It is still available so contact me. thanks”
The weird thing is, the seller only pseudo-removed it. The listing is still there but the photos are gone… isn’t that still a TOU violation? LOGIC WINNAR!
Regardless, I’ve seen so many people selling their own used clothing (non-vintage or handmade clothing) and never bothered reporting it. Some people have their shops set up like mini garage sales. I don’t know that etsy has any other way to regulate it other than relying on people reporting items.
I agree Night Cowl. Etsy has a lot of rules about what sellers can and cannot do, but the big one, the one that holds the community together is the idea that items must be handmade, vintage or supplies. This is the first item I have seen to blatantly break that rule, and honestly the fact that its been up for a month signals the beginning of the end as far as I’m concerned. If these items are not taken seriously and removed promptly then it cheapens the work of any seller on the site.
Another blatant rule breaker using Etsy as a place to hock ones personal garbage! I have seen so many things like this on Etsy, even vacations offered. When is Etsy going to actually get off their asses and clean up all these ass holes? I have flagged until blue in the face for many things and they are still there months later. Apparently Etsy doesn’t give a crap! Handmade my white pasty ass!!
You know what, I’m going to take back my earlier comment. If you approach a seller directly with a valid complaint, I think that’s fair. You guys do what you need to do.
I’m really just reacting to people yanking actual handmade stuff out of their stores (like the “tell the end of time” sign). But that’s a whole other issue.
Man this just pisses me off! Sellers who are dishonest enough to list this crap, I don’t care what else they sell, I won’t buy. It’s a turn-off. Who wants to wade through this shit clogging up the categories when they are looking for something fantastic to buy?
This person needs their shop booted off Etsy. The updated description shows the seller is a cheating witch, but only with a B. (can I say bitch here?)
Etsy reads this site, but just in case, I reported her as well.
In any good thing there will be bad. People will violate and try to get away with what they can.
As with anything, Etsy has its problems. It’s still a good site I enjoy.
I’m glad you changed your mind Helen. This violates Etsy’s TOU on several counts. Some people here have wanted to report “offensive” items, but so long as it’s listed and tagged as “mature”, offensive items are allowed. In fact, I’d bet most of the Flags Etsy gets are matters of opinion. This isn’t.
Beyond what’s already been stated, Gift Certificates can only be sold for use at a user’s store. This is not opinion. This crosses more than one line set by Etsy for ALL their users.
Ok, I actually thought it was a painting of a gift card. Cuz, you know, it’s so fuzzy, maybe it was stylistic. Maybe the seller should paint a replica and sell it with a gc so some part is actually hand-made…
now it says ‘pending item’ ‘sorry’
Just. Remove. The. Listing.
It’s not that hard.
It is actually more work to remove the photos. Then go back and edit the title and description
there is no way they were making resin bear figurines in 1989. and that snowglobe– come on! any idiot knows that the whole snowman trend is five years old, tops.
she bought all this shit at the dollar store a year ago, period.
Helen you may be the first person to get Etsy to do their fucking job and get rid of shit like this. Quite frankly, this is the best one you have listed.
It takes Regretsy to get something done on there. That is fucking sad, but at least it’s getting something done.
Now that link goes directly to something completely different http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=31977111
I was reading Etsy TOU a few minutes ago (was curious) and it says you can’t sell something completely different under an existing listing. I imagine so they don’t get screwed over by people selling stuff off-site and then listing something else in its place. So, again, she appears to be in violation.
Beyond all the other aforementioned FAILS, this B also needs to learn how to use a camera. The item that is now placed at this link (as DucksNew pointed out) is supposed to be some kind of fish charms, but by the looks of the picture, they are blurry melted down silver turds.
Give the seller a break, #54, they had to rush something into the spot so they dumped a bunch of silver thingys on the table and snapped a cell phone pic. I had to pause several times while posting because “melted down silver turds” is giving me the giggles
A gift card to the fucking Olive Garden? In what fucking universe is that handmade? What the hell was this idiot thinking? If she doesn’t want people calling her out, then maybe she should try not selling stuff that has no business on Etsy in the first place. Then again, her butthurt reaction is lulz, so…maybe she should keep doing what she’s doing.
Also, a note to the seller – macro setting, bitch. Learn how to use it.
#59, I found several…like I said, I don’t know Etsy rules but I did read through them. I’m pretty sure listing different items in the same listing (if the difference is not color or size) is against their rules: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=33568574
not to mention I don’t think Stitch is vintage.
The card is gone now because I BOUGHT IT!!!
I am taking this homeless guy Alvin out to “dinner” tomorrow night with it.
He will have Dipping Sauces for Breadsticks, while I will have the Seafood Portofino.
Then after dinner, he will suck on my foot in the parking lot.(he has no teeth)
She’s actually ok with the listing in #71, since sellers can sell supplies, provided the first tag is “supplies” and another tag is “commercial”. Ideally, this would be a pretty broad category, given some of the, um, “mediums” we’ve seen here…
She’s no math genius: “20 + years old. =Grey and pink”
I failed Algebra but I’m pretty sure if you add 20 to “years old” the answer is not “grey and pink”. Everyone knows it’s 50 + years old that equals gray and pink…
On a serious note, sellers like this are why a potential buyer like myself does nit shop at Etsy. I don’t have the time or desire to wade through pages and pages of mis-tagged crap.
I’m on here for humor. Humor of all varieties.
The comments=awesome plus
Helen Killer’s choices for posts=fantastic plus
What I see as an artist/art teacher posted by these “artisans”=freaking piss-my-pants mind boggling
equals $21.99 plus s&h….. but is you’re from the Carolina’s I’ll credit you back the fees.
tabby cat, she spelled that carousel horse listing you mentioned in #73 as “carasol”…is this like a combo of aerosol and arousal? Lmfao…maybe she’s into hoof and mouth disease
i hope this bitch has to shut down her entire site for all of these violations…olive garden gift card…wtf…go sell that shit on ebay. etsy is for starving artists like myself. it just cheapens the whole experience. whatta a-hole she is.
November 7, 2009 at 10:47 am
At least they knocked a few dollars off.
November 7, 2009 at 10:47 am
The workmanship is fantastic!
November 7, 2009 at 10:48 am
What an asshole.
November 7, 2009 at 10:52 am

if you buy another item from their shop, you pay double the shipping for this gem. fucking hilarious.
November 7, 2009 at 11:14 am
*FACEPALM*
November 7, 2009 at 11:18 am
The only thing that is clearly handmade is the photo of this gift card. The term ‘Nouvelle Vague’ comes to mind. I like this new category Helen.
November 7, 2009 at 11:21 am
what a deal!
November 7, 2009 at 11:35 am
The shipping cost being double if shipped with another item just adds to the beauty of it all.
November 7, 2009 at 11:35 am
“Yes, for only $22, you can have violent diarrhea from OG’s rotten ass salad!” No thank you.
November 7, 2009 at 11:39 am

Someone?? Try the whole friggin’ community!! Freakin’ loser!!
November 7, 2009 at 1:15 pm
someone was me. this was her response when i told her she was violating etsy’s terms of use:
“half of the items sold on here are not hand made, (detash, ect). Everyone else liked my items.”
personally, i won’t be happy until the listing is down.
November 7, 2009 at 1:18 pm
You go missmoss!! She is obviously one of the illiterate people on Etsy that can’t read the Tos section.

A lovely pendant, a beautiful brooch – I can conceptu-visualize a rocking belt buckle, even.

Weeeeeeeeeee!
November 7, 2009 at 2:46 pm
if your going to sell non handmade or non craft detash junk. GO TO EBAY they will love it
November 7, 2009 at 3:25 pm
The photo is spectacular.
November 7, 2009 at 3:26 pm
lol she has taken it off because *someone* didnt like it but has a message saying it is still available
wtf?
November 7, 2009 at 3:57 pm
#33 Actually, you can flag things that are not homemade on Etsy. I know because I flagged this particular item.
November 7, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Not homemade or vintage that is. And by vintage something has to be at least 20 years old.
November 7, 2009 at 4:34 pm
I’m 25 that means I’m vintage! I wonder if I can sell myself on Etsy?
November 7, 2009 at 4:48 pm
all gone!

@ Holly Weird
“macro setting, bitch. Learn how to use it” I totally heard this in Samuel L. Jackson’s voice! lol
November 7, 2009 at 7:30 pm
ugh I look again at her shop and there’s STILL items there that violate TOS. This user just can’t follow the rules or bother reading them.
she must think the rules don’t apply to her because she’s special. just get her off etsy so she can make her home on Ebay
November 7, 2009 at 7:37 pm
Stupid cow. If you had just added a few sequins and a bit of glitter you would have been home free!
November 7, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Not even sequins and glitter. A piece of string serving as a chain would be enough to call it a necklace.
November 7, 2009 at 8:03 pm
@ NinjaGato:
LOL Nice! I’m 23! 2 for one sale?

Of course she’s from Fresno – as if I don’t see this kind of stupidity on a daily basis here…
Do you think I could fashion a cat o’ nine tails out of upcycled gift cards and smack her with it??

Fee avoidance ftw!

November 8, 2009 at 12:06 am
I do love how she’s reflexively cramming “It’s 20+ years old” in all her “vintage” listings. Because they’re obviously not and she obviously knows it.
November 8, 2009 at 7:27 am
She’s no math genius: “20 + years old. =Grey and pink”
I failed Algebra but I’m pretty sure if you add 20 to “years old” the answer is not “grey and pink”. Everyone knows it’s 50 + years old that equals gray and pink…

Fresno is known for being a crystal meth production town… I think that pretty much explains everything.
