Maybe it’s Maybelline
11/11/09 UPDATE: Seller now insists this is not a misspelling after all.

See, one book is spelled “Rouge”, and the other one is spelled, “Rouge”. So that should clear it up.
12/5/09 UPDATE: Still having some trouble with the name of the book, though this one sounds like it would be more interesting.

November 7, 2009 at 3:48 pm
I just threw up in my mouth a little:(
November 7, 2009 at 3:50 pm
This captures the essence of Sarah Palin’s fans perfectly.
November 7, 2009 at 3:51 pm
hmm, perhaps it has to do with a pig wearing lipstick?
November 7, 2009 at 3:51 pm
Also: a red “sache?”

@ #5 Now I’m laughing at you because you didn’t catch THAT HE SPELLED “ROGUE” WRONG.
November 7, 2009 at 3:56 pm
That’s the kinda thing to buy just so you can break it when you’re upset. You know, so you don’t break something that actually means anything.
November 7, 2009 at 3:59 pm
omg you’re right!
Sorry Helen.
November 7, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Bush, don’t forget the Obama toilet seat cover that was featured here.
November 7, 2009 at 4:01 pm
That really has it all. Ugly, stupid, spelling error that actually turns into a whole ‘nother word… awesome.
November 7, 2009 at 4:06 pm
In fairness, there is a book coming out that parodies Going Rogue, that is actually called Going Rouge. This person may or may not know that though.

November 7, 2009 at 4:15 pm
There’s nothing in their store to support the idea that they have that level of awareness.
November 7, 2009 at 4:07 pm
i think this guy is just trying to market stuff by putting someones name on it thinking it will sell..
which the scheme in itself i find tasteless and tacky. kinda like slap michel jackson on it and say “lookie! mickel jackson memorabilia, better get it quick”
usually isnt a sache what you wear around your waist? no sorry that’s sash .. sachet was what he was trying to spell? why not just say “gift bag”
and Klair it sure doesn’t capture MY essence

January 19, 2013 at 5:22 pm
Beautiful. I congratulate you.
November 7, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Perfect!
November 7, 2009 at 4:13 pm
I’ve come across this seller before, and I think they may sincerely be the most boggling etsian out there. Even if I supported Palin (and what are we supporting her for anymore? The next election? Already?) I wouldn’t want an ugly ass etched hunk of glass that said so. I’d buy a bumper sticker like everyone else. This one confuses me too:

November 7, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Oh, is she joining my profession?
November 7, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Hellen Thank you knew it looked odd for something was wrong other than tacky. looks like someone used Spell Check without checking it twice.
BOL awesome edit as well!!
November 7, 2009 at 4:17 pm
I must confess, the first time I saw the title of Sarah Palin’s book, I thought it said “Going Rouge”
I thought it was somehow a reference to the whole red state blue state thing.
November 7, 2009 at 4:20 pm
I find it hard to believe that she has sold several Palin ornaments already.
November 7, 2009 at 4:22 pm
It would go nicely in a gift basket with this…

November 7, 2009 at 4:27 pm
For #5 — There has been Obama stuff on here. In addition to the above noted Obama toilet seat cover, there was also that “handmade” Obama coffee packet. If somebody crafted an Obama ornament with Chainge on it I think it would make the cut.
November 7, 2009 at 4:30 pm
What’s a sache? Does she mean sachet or sack?
November 7, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Bushwhacker: What about the Obama Coffee?
And this is pretty awful: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=10693888
November 7, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Sometimes I just don’t know what to say. The dumbing down of America is certainly prevalent on Etsy. Don’t people proofread anymore? Can’t these artisans take a step back and try and look at their creations from others’ perspectives?
Some of this is just SAD (in its hilarity).
November 7, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Even if there were no spelling error involved, items like this can be procured at mall kiosks and at those ubiquitous “gift shoppes” which vend tacky music boxes and curios which feature gnomes, ladybugs and faeries.
I agree with the comment of Blue Kraken– this seller is just using names to sell items.
November 7, 2009 at 4:53 pm
#15: What do you mean, what are we supporting Palin for? It says quite clearly, “Christmas 2009″ — she’s running for Christmas. I don’t support her as a candidate, though — I don’t see her lasting much past the 4th day of Christmas. I support Clinton. 12 More Days! 12 More Days!
November 7, 2009 at 5:29 pm
#27 the real question is, is she running for Christmas, or just ruining Christmas?
I might need this ornament just so i can smash it. I’ll buy one for #6, too.
November 7, 2009 at 5:36 pm
In searching for the actual book title, I found this:
http://shelf-life.ew.com/2009/10/21/going-rouge-palin-basher-lookalike/
November 7, 2009 at 5:43 pm
i dont even get this, but then im australian
please explain
November 7, 2009 at 5:52 pm
#13 just about made me piss myself laughing.
That almost made me lose my urge to hunt this seller from a helicopter.
November 7, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Doesn’t that illustrate the average intelligence of a Palin supporter / follower. This is perfect, just perfect. Very adroit.
November 7, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Sarah Palin is famous for, among other things, “going rogue” during the 2008 presidential campaign. Supposedly she defied the advice of the McCain advisors. However, this seller has made a little spelling error. But dear Sarah did highlight how she wore lipstick so hey, it works!
But I agree with #28, I’d only buy it to smash it. Probably with her book, which I would do at the bookstore so I would not have to pay for it.
November 7, 2009 at 6:31 pm
@#30, When Sarah Palin was running with John McCain, some people said she was “going rogue”, meaning she was being self-interested and disloyal to the campaign. She’s kind of re-purposed that, and is using it as a compliment. And to that end, she’s titled her upcoming book “Going Rogue”.
This seller engraved it on a Christmas ornament, but they spelled it “Going Rouge”, which makes the whole thing even more ridiculous.
November 7, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Anyone know who LIZ is? LMAO!!! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=32681024
November 7, 2009 at 6:59 pm
#35, in the link you provided, in the thumbnail that shows “sellers other items,” the “baby’s first christmas” ornament looks like its shaped like South Korea. LOL that’s seriously what I thought it was at first.
November 7, 2009 at 7:02 pm
The seller changed the description. The “sache” is no longer red. It’s rouge. Oh, and it’s spelled correctly (sachet).
November 7, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Spelled right or wrong, all items in that store are equally hideous!

I am almost tempted to buy this for my one and only Republican friend to see if she can spot the spelling error. I suspect that she would not.
November 7, 2009 at 7:32 pm
I don’t understand the sentence “Can also be used as OR SUN CATCHER”. What is an “OR SUN CATCHER”? On-request sun catcher? Seller fixed some words but leaves that. Strange, really strange.
November 7, 2009 at 7:46 pm
Yeah – they’re getting loads of sun up there in Alaska this time of year *snort*.
November 7, 2009 at 7:54 pm
everydaymama – I totally want a FLEUR DE LIZ. I will love it (??her) tell the end of time.
November 7, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Was it originally tagged as “Comic”?
November 7, 2009 at 8:04 pm
You know, given that the seller also has an Obama Christmas Ornament, and a Teddy Kennedy commemorative paperweight, I’m not so sure that they’re a Palin supporter.
November 7, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Ok, I just have to add this one as well. The grammatical errors are worse than here AND it’s for Obama. What the hell is a prise or a suncather? Is that like a catheter? And if so, I’m scared.

helen killer you are hilarious with your commentary
November 7, 2009 at 11:04 pm
I weirdly think this actually might be tongue-in-cheek on the part of the seller. Err… tounge in cheek? Whatever. I’m confused by it, since the listing is unclear. A newscaster originally misread her book title as ‘going rouge’ and that *is* now a common enough joke.
My biggest beef with this thing is that it is in the BOOKS AND ZINES top category, and tagged with “comic” … another clue the seller might be joking, but is also a tagging jerk.
November 7, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Before this popped up here I actually convoed this guy to politely correct him on his spelling. He said, “I know the spelling is not the same as the real book name as I am not sure if I can use the correct spelling. What do you think?” I said he could use the correct spelling and he said, “…have done work for the last five US Presidents all the retiring senators since 1984, LPGA trophy’s so I dont want to take any chances. If Sarah had become President I would have done her inauguration…
November 7, 2009 at 11:45 pm
I’m not sure if he is telling the truth but I’m not convinced it was intentional. Also I wasn’t aware Sarah Palin was running for President, I thought it was Vice President… MY BAD. I’m also not sure why he asked what I thought when he clearly had his mind made up that it was awesome as is already…
November 7, 2009 at 11:46 pm
Whoops, first comment got cut off. It ended with, “If Sarah had become President I would have done her inauguration gift.”
November 8, 2009 at 12:35 am
The sad thing is, so many WoW players (and probably others) spell “rogue” as “rouge” habitually that the misspelling will go right by them.
Heh. Nice one, though.

(which is suppossed to be a teddy bear)
Is the same exact shape as her “Ireland” ornament?:

you know.. for the spelling challenged Etsyians who list things… I wished they used fox fire. It shows all your errors when you type as you type it. Doesn’t help with grammar but at least if the words were all spelled right it wouldn’t be so easy to pick on you!!!
November 9, 2009 at 8:00 am

The Blue Kraken – Safari has spell check too. Or they could type their description into a word processor, spell check it, and paste it into their browser window.
November 9, 2009 at 9:50 am
Actually, this would look great on our Christmas tree, next to our “Obama Yes We Kan 2008″ ornament.
November 9, 2009 at 10:05 am
#47: Yes, Frenkenkitty, you are correct. On a side note, I once suffered from a “Red sache” after going rogue in my 501′s.
November 9, 2009 at 10:17 am

Still doesn’t quite seem to get it…
November 11, 2009 at 5:54 pm
Thank you Tom. I updated the post to add his perfectly reasonable explanation.

November 12, 2009 at 8:19 am
mwahaha…. idiot.
November 12, 2009 at 10:04 pm
I just sent this seller the following email, laying out the mistake in plain English. She can’t write it, but I assume she can read it. I’ll let you all know if I get a response.
—————–
I’m sorry to tell you, but Sarah’s book is not “Going Rouge,” it is “Going Rogue”. The image that you linked to in your listing is probably from this article. http://shelf-life.ew.com/2009/10/21/going-rouge-palin-basher-lookalike/
Sarah Palin’s Book is called “Going Rogue: An American…
November 12, 2009 at 10:05 pm
…continued:
Sarah Palin’s Book is called “Going Rogue: An American Life.” The book from the Nation is called “Going Rouge: An American Nightmare” – it is a collection of essays about Sarah Palin. It is mocking the fact that “rogue” is spelled similarly to “rouge,” meaning the blusher make up that you put on your cheeks.
I’m assuming that you support Sarah Palin, and don’t want to make Christmas ornaments that mock her and imply that she is nothing but a pretty doll.
Good…
November 14, 2009 at 8:56 pm
He apparently offers both spellings. He told me that 4 people bought this thing – and money talks, so he makes them. He’s “not into politics” though.
I still don’t think he gets it.
December 4, 2009 at 2:02 pm
I used to play a rouge in Everquest but the gay mafia kept kicking my ass.
December 5, 2009 at 1:08 pm
i’m thankful he cleared everything up!
if she goes bald, she can do “going rogaine”
December 5, 2009 at 1:22 pm
This is getting all a little too post-post-post-modern, life immitating art immitating life immitating art for me…
I mean, did this lady deliberately spell it “Rogue” to copy the book by The Nation people, or did she genuinely misspell “Rogue”, and then try to get out of it when she discovered the parody book? Because if she did it deliberately, copying the title of the book by The Nation, not funny. If it was an accident and then she tried to make it look deliberate= VERY funny.
December 5, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Oops- now I’m all confused lol- I meant to say did she deliberately spell it “rouge”???

I can’t decide which book title is more intriguing for a female politician:
“Going Rogue” (oh! I get it! She’s a maverick! Americans love mavericks!),
“Going Rouge” (Oh! I get it! She’s making fun of the whole Lipstick on a Pig thing from the campaign!), or
“Going Rough” (Oh! I get it! She’s… wait, what? Oh, ew…..)

Impressive business sense: “Who needs quality control? If I screw it up, I will rationalize my error, criticize those who clearly see my error for what it is, and claim to have meant to err all along.” Clearly a Republican.

May 24, 2010 at 8:39 pm
She has pic of the book up now and it was spelled “ROUGE”
October 5, 2010 at 1:18 pm

October 5, 2010 at 1:19 pm
Oops, the second title should be “Going Rouge: Sarah Palin, An American Nightmare”. This is getting confusing.
