It looks like she used whatever she could pick out of the vacuum bag after a big seed bead spill. Ugh, i hate beady things…… and i used to work in a freaking bead store!
I like how it says “it is whimsical” right there in the title, as though the seller was so confident that the rest of us wouldn’t be able to figure it out on our own so they decided just to tell us how “whimsical” it is right at the outset
hmmm…I do know that some people will tag with ‘xxx’ so as to get more views.
Maybe the butterfly is giving us the finger.
or its hanging from a noose.
Or it just got out of a golden shower (thus the yellow beads on top).
Eh…I tried. got nothin.
People should really think twice about posting their practice/learning a new craft/technique work. Except, I know…we’d have nothing to make fun of them, so yes, they should post it.
Could you imagine how fantastic you would look if you bought and wore all the featured stuff from Regretsy? Get the Woodland fairy outfit, and the dumbass giant cowl, the Yokoo glasses, the caterpillar cuff, and this brooch, and you will be the talk of the town! At least the talk of the ward, anyway.
What’s bothering me is that it seems to be photographed against a backdrop of human flesh. Or maybe its fleece or felt. I don’t know, but it’s just creepy. Butterflies don’t have arms or antennae just randomly poking out of them, either. At least none that I’ve seen. I do, however, appreciate the crafty use of a twisted paper clip flung out of it’s eye. Clever and whimsical!
This is the kind of object that your 5 year old goddaughter makes at camp or in art class. She presents it to you with great pride. You gleefully accept the “masterpiece” and treasure it forever. Then, and ONLY then, is such a creation “whimsical.”
There he stood, between us and the alley. The Scut Farkus butterfly brooch staring out at us with his yellow eyes. He had yellow eyes! So, help me, God! Yellow eyes! My God!!
And this is EXACTLY why dumping your chemicals in the river is bad kids, you think the butterfly enjoys only having one antenna and extra ‘feelers’ on it’s wings?
This is an example of one of those listings where the best photo was not chosen to be the main photo. The last photo, with the “FUN” bubble coming out of the butterfly, is where it’s at.
By the way, I thought the repeating xxx was to signal that this was a pastie, not a brooch. The flesh-toned background makes more sense this way, too.
Apparently the seller knows she’s on regretsy, because now the first photo shows the brooch on the windshield of a car.
*giggles*
at least someone has a sense of humor
“Poor Butterfly Brooch/colorful/whimsical/ugly/handcrafted” is the new title.
That photo on the windshield is hilarious! Great to see that this Seller can laugh about it! Not like Her Royal Highness Yokoo who probably had a fit and took her listing of the yarn spectacles down.
Oh, the weird and wonderful are all located on this one site. This broach is almost ok. Almost, but not quite. Yet, I guess someones treasure is someones trash!

November 3, 2009 at 1:52 pm
I’m still trying to figure out the “XXX” part.
May 7, 2011 at 9:18 pm
Maybe because it wants to “go have fun with you”?
November 3, 2009 at 1:52 pm
With all the triple x’s in the title I was expecting porn.
November 3, 2009 at 1:52 pm
I get it. Whimsical is code for ‘looks like crap.’

The more I look at it, I think it looks pissed and is flipping us off.
November 3, 2009 at 2:11 pm
I think if that “butterfly” is a butterfly, it is the product of several generations of incest.
November 3, 2009 at 2:20 pm
If I looked like that, I’d be pretty pissed off too.
November 3, 2009 at 2:22 pm
I read the xxx’s as death. So… BUTTERFLY BROOCH death It is whimsical death HANDCRAFTED death HANDBRAIDED
November 3, 2009 at 2:26 pm
i’m stuck on the brooch wanting to go have fun with me. That’s good because if I’m wearing that, none of my friends will want to go have fun with me.
November 3, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Isn’t that the eboli virus?

It seems most *artisans* (and i use that term ever so loosely) have no idea what *Whimsical* means
Hey I feel a whim to buy that thing that looks like a cat chewed it and flush it down the loo.
November 3, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Whimsical: Dictionary Definition: “Odd or fantastic in appearance; quaintly devised; fantastic”.
This piece is far from Whimsical, and should be described correctly as CRAP. It looks like something my cat hacked up!!
November 3, 2009 at 4:07 pm

I thought those were penises coming out of its wings.
IT IS WHIMSICAL.

Of course it’s HAND beaded, no machine could crank out crap like this.
November 3, 2009 at 4:58 pm
@ moi-
Its clearly handicapped. Why else would it have crutches?

Ok. I just read this artist’s profile, and have discovered that her “stage name” is “Mrs. Ticklefeather.” Somehow, this explains it all for me.
November 3, 2009 at 5:30 pm
Are you telling me that thing is safety pinned to someone’s nipple?!!!
Fun indeed.
November 3, 2009 at 5:42 pm
#30, perhaps whimsical, too?
November 3, 2009 at 6:22 pm
@ #23 crapgawker: LMAO!! You’ll shoot your eye out!! Or in this case you’ll want to voluntarily poke it out with a sharp object!
November 3, 2009 at 6:57 pm
#9 That’s what I thought too.
IT IS WHIMSICAL
It’s like she’s trying to convince herself.
November 3, 2009 at 8:34 pm
#9 and #33 The IT IS WHIMSICAL part is what got me too.
Is that some sort of brainwashing technique?
November 3, 2009 at 8:36 pm
xxx and it “wants to go have fun with you.”
I think that’s illegal in most states.
November 3, 2009 at 9:14 pm

now whats this persons excuse?
November 3, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Is that a probiscus in its pocket, or is it just glad to see me . . .
November 3, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Helen Killer, you slay me!
November 3, 2009 at 11:40 pm
I still don’t get why there’s only one antenna? Is that from too much fun?…
November 4, 2009 at 1:20 am
Looks like something peeled off the grill of her car.
November 4, 2009 at 2:10 am
“Measures about 1 2/2″ square not counting the antenni and arms.”
Oh my goodness. As a biologist, this offends me so much. It’s like seeing a picture of a duck with teeth or a bat with antennae.
Did she honestly think that butterflies have ARMS?! Like big human arms?! And not six little legs like, oh I don’t know, an insect? Ack!
PS It totally weirded me out to think that this brooch is fastened to someones flesh in the photo.

valentinefiberarts aka Mrs. Ticklefeather has a history y’all. Frankly, I’m amazed!

ps, I think I saw this butterfly featured in a “Hinterland’s Who’s Who” documentary short.
November 4, 2009 at 6:36 am
Every time I see this it gets uglier.
November 4, 2009 at 7:14 am
@ crapgawker – I hope that his crummy toadie Grover Dill isn’t lurking somewhere in this etsy shop too…
