“Special occasion”? What kind of special occasion? A lumberjack wedding? I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the coordination to hold a log and a drink at the same time. How about we just put this in the fireplace and call it Christmas?

As a jewelry box, maybe. As a purse to carry around, hell no!

As a kitsch jewelry box, maybe… you know for all my earrings made either of wood or of dead bugs. (sadly, there are actually people who make jewelry out of dead bugs)… or nails! maybe jewelry made from Dad’s tool box leftovers…
I’m not quite sure why this is a “purse”… or what special occasion I could haul it to.

This person at least has some skills. But I seriously think this would shred your clothes to carry around

Reminds me of the Log Lady from Twin Peaks.
But I like it too. Highly impractical, but nice looking.

i think this bark “pocket book” is much funnier. what the fuck pocket is that supposed to fit in?
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=31913597&ref=sr_gallery_6&&ga_search_query=bark+purse&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=date_desc&includes=tags&includes=title
um, and note the randomly placed “ass” in the description.

Great. Just great. Now I’m going to have the Log song from Ren and Stimpy stuck in my head for days. Thanks, Regresty.
It’s log, log.
It’s big, it’s heavy, it’s wood.
It’s log, log.
Better than bad, it’s good!

Okay, we have some serious practical considerations, as already mentioned. And I note that the handle is attached to the lid, so when you pick it up, the hinges will break and all the contents will spill out.
But aside from that? I really love that she used a window lock as a latch. I don’t know why, but it makes me smile.

I would buy this if it was like, $10.
But I would buy this because I go LARPing and play a moth scavenger. Having a chunk of wood to hide all my gas globes and alchemy ingredients in would be awesome, and cabin raiders would probably overlook a chunk of wood in the forest.

This *could* be cool, if it were finished to be smooth, and they had counter-sunk their stupid wood screws so they weren’t jutting out of the log.

I actually love this.
I could see it as a jewelry box or keepsake box or something to stick on my desk and keep random stuff in or something, but as a purse? I can barely keep track of my regular purse, and $75 for a hollow chunk of wood that will just snag your dress all night is kind of steep.
I do like it, though.

I was going to say what #16 did about Ren and Stimpy….and then also the Twin Peaks reference..
everyone loves this damned thing…
I’d rather throw it in the fire as Helen Killer suggested…and call it Christmas..because Christmas has presents and warm drink….and…
…..

a huge, colossal “UGH” to all those bitching about the price. if it were $10, it would have been made in a sweatshop, because that is the sort of labor you pay for when you buy a $10 purse.

I was going to make a comment about liking it as box but not a purse, but I see everyone beat me to it. Now I’m just amused that this seems to have gotten the most positive reaction on Regretsy to date. I agree with #32 about the pricing thing, though. I have sold handmade jewelry (at a store, not on Etsy) and been frustrated when people expect to pay Wal-Mart prices for something that A) I had to first buy all the materials for and then B) make. Some stuff here is overpriced, but not all.

tempesty: even worse, I’ve had people expect me to undercut wal-mart. I actually had someone say, “well, I found X really cheap from China but I thought you could make it for me cheaper.”
Um, no, because even if I were willing to work for $.75/day, I don’t have access to the kind of per-yard pricing you get when buying 200 bolts at a time like factories do.

Count me in as one of the people who loves it — but then again, I have a vintage 60s purse that has a phone built into it. As in you pull out a phone cord attached to it, plug it into the nearest phone jack, and use the dial and handset that are part of the purse to make a call at whatever location you’re at. Pre-cell phone mobile dialing! (My point being here that my taste in purses=highly questionable.)

I adore this impractical, bizarre, uh… purse. And as somebody already mentioned, the Log Lady vibes add to its greatness. Not loving the handle, though.

i think it’s great that most of the questions people had about this product she seems to have addressed in her description now. she must be aware she made it to regretsy with this piece.
kind of ironic considering she made etsy’s front page, too.
also, as many have said, it would make a better jewelry box, i think. she says it’s too top heavy… maybe added some weight with metal feet on the bottom would fix that and then we wouldn’t all be going, “why would i use this for ANY…

I want one… but I don’t have $75. That isn’t to say I wouldn’t buy it. I’d much rather this than my friend’s “purse” made out of old license plates with a strap made from an old tire. It’s neat, but this is effing adorable!

I do like this, but it seems really fragile. I grew up practically in the woods so i know how easy birch bark tears and scratches. It seems like it would fall apart really easy. And it is definitely not worth the price, maybe $10?
