Hot Air

- Submitted by Emma

Whenever I think “awesome fashion”, I immediately think, “brushed fleece”. I mean, it’s just automatic at this point. Kind of like, “one-size-fits-most” and “must have”.

I’m not sure about “elegant and “poncho”, but then, I haven’t seen it in “Blue Moose in the Woods”.

Well yeah, but ya gotta admit that there’s nothing more elegant than ‘hot air balloons on turquoise.’

BTW — you are my hero. This is now my favorite site in the web!

This seems like a classic case of “I made one for myself, and a couple of my friends (who have the same taste) loved it and told me I should sell them!”

But then…isn’t that how a lot of crafty businesses began?

That picture is so charmingly reminiscent of Abu Ghraib. Do you think the head-cropping and posture were intentional, or is this crafter *that* out of touch?

Shop banner says she’s “fleec-ing the world”
    I’ll say.

Also, if your name starts with “D”, I gather it’s only logical to use that + “Designs” as your brand name.

I’m just pointing out that these have actually SOLD OUT! These are as bad as Snuggies. I cringe to think that there are people (who actually paid for, or worse were gifted) wearing these. Maybe right now!

I love that it’s also available in “blue moose in the woods” pattern.

This looks like something a kid made at church camp. “You take this big square of fleece and a pair of scissors… and voila! A lovely Christmas gift for your mom!”

She really can’t be making money off of this…I’d guess 2-3 yards fleece, of which the price varies but at the least maybe $5 a yard on sale (that’s not the ‘quality’ fleece y’all)…then the time to tie all the knots.

    Poncho price….$15.00
    listing fee…..$00.20
    transaction fee $00.56
    paypal fee……$00.44
    ———————-
    total earned….$13.80

Price of fleece at Joanns right now: $7.99 (on sale) to $12.99 a yard. Plain colors are less, and clearance crappy fleece is less. Even if she used a 40% off coupon, its $7.79 a yard.

(I am so stalling on getting to work this morning, that yes, i actually figured all of that out)

She is paying people to buy her ponchos. I would have charged $30-50, just because of the fabric cost and time. Not that I would have made these to sell mind you (or made them at all), just saying.

If you are going to take the time to make something, and sell it, then for god’s sake as least get some money for it!

I’m just thanking God she’s covered up…what kind of must have’s does she have under that awesome fashion statement??
But then after I thought about it, if there was a “wedding bell” motif, I have a friend getting married..it WOULD make a great gift for the honeymoon night!!

I don’t know what’s better, the hideous patterns she chose or the coarsely-chopped uneven fringe.

I love the fringe. It looks like she did it with a paper shredder.

FWIW, I imagine that she didn’t go out and buy fleece for this project. Speaking as a mother with older children now, I would guess that she re-purposed her own kids’ baby/toddler blankets. Cut them in half the long way, sew them together as a poncho, and there you go. It would also explain how she managed to sell out (she ran out of blankets).

It’s better than thinking she went to a craft store and purposely bought those patterns, right?

It would have been REALLY nice if she had taken a moment to follow the orientation of the fabric and made sure the balloons were actually drifting UPWARDS, as opposed to looking like they are in strong winds and being blown off course. I need to know the moose(s?) are going to be standing up, not appearing to be lying down and playing dead on my new jacket.

And I get very nervous when I see things described as “Fashion Must Haves”.

The ONLY thing I can think about when I see this pose is Abu-Ghraib.. (just without the crazy hats they put on them)..
