Curiously Repulsive

The seller of this piece describes it as “really fun”, and I have to agree. I don’t think there’s anything more fun than a baby rat in your mints, unless it’s a dead cat in your chimney or maggots in your sink. Oh man, I’m smiling just thinking about it.

Isn’t the going rate for a tin of Altoids around $2.50 USD? I guess the infant rat really inflates the value.

The baby rat seems really accurate. What’s it made of? It looks like wax. I wonder if the artist used a real baby rat to make a mold of some sort? Didn’t it squirm? Or was it dead? Is this a molded wax dead baby rat? Hey, that is fun.

It’s polymer clay and sculpted by hand. I did use photos of baby rats as reference. This series of sculptures is really meant as a bit of a joke. The reactions to it at art festivals is really fun to watch.

it’d be funnier if there were like 50 baby rats, not just one. This looks like some sort of trophy or something. To quote @ctw1966, Ew.

I kinda want it to be edible, so you could open the tin and be like, “Mmmmmm….baby rat,” and then pop it into your mouth while people look on in horror. But it actually tastes like strawberries.

@ #4 Noadi: Thanks for the factual answer (I genuinely was curious), and for being a good sport.

That is so realistic looking, wow. I had to check the title twice to make sure I saw ‘sculpture’ correct.

YAY for the seller coming and letting us know about the product. I must admit – I’d be more freaked if it was real! However I’m with The Mayor of Bethville – it would be much more awesome if you could pop it in your mouth and eat it – THEN I’d buy it!

I’m in on the strawberry baby rats idea. Kinda like the chocolate mice I used to buy when I lived in England. :-)

Noadi’s weird creations are on a different plane to some of this other junk. I dig her cephalopod jewelry too
